I've done nothing today and it's been wonderful, but I'll need to start cleaning my apartment tomorrow.

Also, I cheer for a soccer team in Germany, and coming into today, they needed their rival to absolutely meltdown in order to have a good shot to be automatically promoted to the top league next year. Their rival completely melted down. I'm not going to lie, it's nice being on the other side of that for once

I got mostly packed today. I actually got a LOT of **** into my carry on. All my clothes, two pairs of shoes, two coats.....depending how full DH fills his stuff, we may be able to skip a checked bag for me. Think all but two things I need will fit in my liquids quart bag. Rest can go in his checked. The deal is we want room for gifts/souvenirs so we can't be 100% full when we leave, need some room for stuff we bring back.
Finished outside stuff and staked one tree (got a curvy trunk). Two bigger trees (that we didn't plant!) need to be straightened, but they are like, IDK, 4-5 caliper? We started to dig one to try and put dirt under the leaning side but DH thinks it's got too many roots already established. So we will have to try and stake it but we're both unsure about staking a tree that size. Both are probably 15ft tall. One has a bad lean to it, leader is starting to go back the other way in attempt to straighten itself (hey people that replaced the dead one last fall, you suck!) Anyone done that before?

If those trees are already established I doubt there is anything you can do about it.

the worse one went in last Oct-Nov and we noticed the lean over the winter but frozen ground. I think we can stake that one, moves more when we mess with it. We had tried fixing the other one shortly after it was put in 1.5 ago, but needs more. Not sure if we can though cause it's pretty solidly in. Might have to ask landscaper guy even though he had nothing to do with them.

Not a good year for Tombstone actors...

And I mean this in the most respectable way possible...

You should be able to pry the root ball up some. Just need several guys and the right pry bars. When the crew planted my big white pines they had some really heavy duty shovels that had steel handles...like half shovel half pry bar. You aren't going to be able to pull them straight via stacking. Or, like you mentioned, hired some landscape dudes to straighten it up, just make sure they are moving the root ball and not pulling the trunk.

I was thinking non coniferous, wasn't sure what kind. If a pine tree, just trim the branches so it looks like it's straight.

CG, have a great trip! Hopefully work doesn't stress much before you leave.

thanks! I don't think I slept much last night, combo of anxious and excited. Just hoping I didn't try to cram too much in........though it's our schedule. Outside of where we need to sleep and a few train times, we don't have to do something if it feels like too much.

plus I had to take four strongish headache meds yesterday but I can still feel it a bit today. There's a sore spot right at the base of my skull that google says can be a cause of tension headaches. So I'm hoping that goes away before tonight because I not liking the prospect of that returning. Drinking lots of water today and taking it on the plane.

oh and Dh got mostly packed yesterday actually. Turns out his checked bag doesn't have too much in it so we for sure don't need mine. Plenty of room for bringing stuff back. One less bag to haul around! We are going to appreciate that a lot as we move around and have to take luggage on public transit.

ok and I was wrong on the caliper size of those trees. I thought that meant around, not across. These were both 2.5 trees when we got them, I'd guess the bigger one is 3 by now, the one that has the worse lean would still be in that 2.5 range. So that's a good bit different than 4-5, ha. I might send an email to landscape guy since he drives through to check on plant progress in our neighborhood (neighbors use him too and just put in a bunch of stuff yesterday). If he sees them in person he might have a solid idea of if we can dig it or if staking will work.

Make sure you drink enough water on the plane. Those long flights can dehydrate you.

traipsing thru the treetops
Reason #863,725 why I despise gardening...
Got a blister on the inside of my index finger from using my hand tools to put in some annuals. Stupid thing is right across where the first knuckle bends. The whole top layer of skin came off before I realized I had a blister, so there's this bare patch of "new" skin about the circumference of a pea. Hurts like a beyotch when I forget it's there and grab hold of something...

Yeah, I know...I'm a whiner...
