First serious attempt on my life this year. Was biking on through street (all the cross streets have stop signs) and saw the car from the right didn't appear to be slowing down. I slammed on my brakes (didn't go down but close) and the car blew through the stop sign at about 30-35 mph. Did not see the stop sign, did not see me, no idea what the **** that car load of idiots was up to. Woof. If I hadn't been paying attention you guys would be sorting through my stuff. And, I like the disc brakes on the new bike.
On a related note, my daughter got her license on Friday. Pretty eventful week for her. Two AP tests, got a job and her license. The first time she drove the car without me, she saw the results of an accident where a car ended up landing on top of another car. It turns out the car on top had two 16-year-old girls in it that were trying to take a selfie. Hopefully, this reinforces cautious driving skills.

She is already doing better then my buddy in high school did on his first ride. I was with him on his first ride and we crashed. He buzzed right through a yield sign and we got hit in the left rear quarter panel. Spun us across a full 360. After we stopped spinning my friend had a white knuckle grip the steering wheel and was on the verge of tears. Being a smart-ass 16-year old I offered this comfort "Well, there goes your driver's license."

BTW, the car that hit us, teenager classmates whose speeding contributed to the accident. After the cops came and were done he somehow drove the crippled Pontiac Bonneville home. He was like kinda in shock trying to explain. I ended up giving the calm eyewitness report to his older sister.

Okay. Looking at that picture I have no idea how this coud have happened. The Accord is not that low to the ground and I don't think the Nissan (Altima?) has that much ground clearance? Freakish.

College friend from Ankeny is in town this weekend with his daughter's soccer team. As we're waiting for the game to start, I realize I recognize one of the moms on their team.

Yeah, first cousin of mine.

Back in your 16 year old days, the Bonneville was most likely practically indestructible.

Hopefully their parents replaced their phones with flip phones.

@SaraV will wave at the press tower this weekend. Son runs on Thursday morning, but may be there all weekend.

Look for me wandering the infield with a camera. Yay for media now having to be all the medias. With them putting 2A and 3A in the afternoon session, which is nearly all the schools we cover, I'm going to be quite busy. Oh, and rain forecasted! We're back to the Relays! ;)

Good luck to your son, hope he does well!

'64 Bonneville four door hardtop. Not having a B-pillar on those was a big style thing back then. Still remember my buddy's birthday was in October so it will be 50 years ago this fall. Yikes!

If they had hit us square and not in the quarter panel we would have been hurt bad if not killed.

Okay, enough with da flashbacks...back to yard for more garden work and later go for bikey ride.

Means I won't sleep tonight because of the double whammy - allergies & arthritis.
