Morels?

I was at the store a couple days ago with my daughters and saw some morels in the produce aisle for $50/lb. They were shocked that anything could be that expensive but they've never had them before.

A friend found a bunch around Chariton and I found several in ottumwa area.

I've tried them a couple times. I'd take the money. My daughter found a single yellow this past Friday in our small wooded area. Not much around and I've seen an article saying they are hard to find this year.

Picked 15 or so greys south of Fort Dodge on Sunday. Left probably 15 or 20 in the woods that were about an inch tall.

We found 10 nice yellows by the Missouri River Saturday, my daughter found 3 pound of large yellows southeast of Des Moines the same day.

My season is underway but still early (my spots tend to be on the late side).

It seems fairy normal so far but my gosh it's dry around here.

Boys went out with a friend in southern Iowa Sunday and came home with 8 buckets. Said they were filling up a pickup bed. Seems to be a banner year in southern Iowa. We have had a rainy spring.

Found about 15 in the trails area of Greenwood Park in Des Moines off the Bill Riley Trail. I went with my family for the first time this year. Read an article prior to going and it says early in the year you'll find them close to dead trees on south-facing slopes. Each one we found sure enough was close to a dead tree on a south-facing slope.

Was traipsing around urban park woods today doing some bird watching and checked a spot I saw morels in last year. Nothing. Been pretty dry and cool up here. Going to be raining the rest of this week and warm next week so maybe something will pop than. Did see some people with bags and walkie talkies. I don't speak Hmong so have no idea what they were looking for but it looked like they were doing some sort of plant hunting.

Has anyone found any yet? The snow down south isn't helping right now, but it is supposed to be nice next week.
