Darn, I was hoping he was making a cameo on BCS.

I bet he will eventually, but am happy it may not be in Season 3. There is tons of good story to spin watching Jimmy become Saul.

What a sign of how well these characters are developed. Jimmy totally ***** over his brother, and we all still hate Chuck and sympathize with Jimmy.

It's because Chuck's been a total **** to Jimmy the entire show, even before Jimmy forged the legal documents.

The fact that Chuck was the one who didn't want Jimmy to be a partner in HHM and fought so hard against it was the nail in the coffin for me hating Chuck.

The bolded is so true. He's the ultimate weasel lawyer, not a good person and his antics are the reason that most people hate lawyers. Chuck is the "Good Guy" in this in that he knows what Jimmy is and is trying his hardest to keep him out of the Lawyer game, which would be good for all involved, not named Jimmy. Yet here we all are, rooting for Jimmy. Even as we know what he becomes.

See I disagree. I think at heart Jimmy is a good guy. Chuck puts on a front of being a good guy but he's really an ass and thinks he's better than everyone.

No mentions of the flash-forward yet? Jimmy narcs on the kid hiding in the booth, yells at him to get a lawyer, then passes out/has heart attack? I hope this season shows more of his future because now I'm intrigued as hell.

I'm not really talking about personality though. I'm talking professionally. We all know Jimmy ends up representing drug dealers, losers, con men, etc. He was one himself and never shied away from still being one, even when he was working as a lawyer. Yeah, he put up the front that he was doing for the people getting ripped off by Sandpiper, but in reality, he loves the con game. They even had that episode in season 2 where he was bringing Kim in on it. I'm not doubting he can be personally a nice guy, but most of his tactics are below board, even when doing the right thing.

Yeah, Chuck is an ass. He'd definitely be that guy who would keep you from inviting your friends to the country club. But, he believes in the law and he believes it's sacred. He would use the law to get his verdict, not twist the law and use bad tactics to get his way. And he doesn't like Jimmy skirting those laws to get his verdict. If Jimmy hadn't proven to be the ultimate con man his entire life, I don't think Chuck would be the way he is. Chuck obviously does suffer from, "I've done it right my whole life, why does everyone like Jimmy so much more?" syndrome though.

This is how I see the first two seasons. Now, I can see how it can be perceived both ways, but so far, what I've seen gives me the opinion that if it weren't for Chuck, Jimmy wouldn't be a lawyer. He's always been trying to impress his older brother. That's the only reason he follows any laws at all. Yeah, I can see how some people see Chuck being overbearing might cause Jimmy to do the bad things he does. Personally though, it seems to me, the only reason that Jimmy does anything good, at least as the law is concerned, is to impress Chuck and get his brothers favor.

In the end, this is probably another nod to the good writing on this show. It can be seen both ways. Is there a right, is there a wrong, I'm not sure, but I'm sure if we sat long enough and hashed it out over a beer, we'd probably both be able to see the others point. As I said already, I certainly can see how Chuck is a source for both good and bad in Jimmy.

Except when he's illegally taping his brother and then bringing Ernie into this mess too. Chuck is nasty.

I agree. Season 1 and 2 clearly established Chuck as an ass. But my point is that the writing is so good and the character development so strong, that even when Jimmy goes way overboard to commit fraud, screw Chuck, and damage his reputation, Chuck gets little to no empathy.

Well done, BCS.

And Mike remains a bad ass.

Good premier although I was getting a bit lost with the Mike stuff, which is usually really good. Did they really need to spend a whole episode showing us how to reprogram a tracking device? I know it was just for effect, but played kind of meh on TV to me

No, He found the tracker, found the model number and ordered another. He then took apart the original, drained the battery and replaced it with his identical tracker. The person with the original tracker thinks the battery went dead and came to get it replacing it with a new one (why mike took the gas cap off before leaving again). Mike is now following them because they don't know he put his tracker in the place of the tracker with the drained battery.

Clear as mud?

I got that, though it seems like a long portion of the show just to convey what he did.

Summary of statute(s): It is an unlawful “interference with communications” to record a telephone conversation without the consent of one of the parties to the communication. But the statute does not prohibit recording an in-person conversation without such consent. N.M.Aug 1, 2012

Not so sure it is illegal .. but I think they said it was illegal in the show... maybe for effect?

I think it was somewhat important to show how smart/clever Mike is.

Yeah, I think they do a good job of conveying that. Just seemed like they could have done that without showing the entirety of tearing the car apart/taking apart multiple gas caps/draining batteries etc.. Not a big complaint, but not terribly entertaining viewing (my wife fell asleep during the show, and she has been talking about it since last season ended).
