@wxman1, son was complaining about what he referred to as incessant over-dramatization of the Michigan basketball plane incident. Says those things happen quite a bit and aren't a big deal. Thoughts? I mean, I know that is par for the course for Pilot Leath, but not sure about others. Weather seemed to be a factor which I assume it often is.

Heard the Badgers are going to start shooting the bb underhand in an effort to continue setting basketball back 100 years.

Our 8th graders did a financial literacy unit in the week before spring break. One of the final things they did was job shadow for a day. How convenient that James Pollard happened to be job shadowing the ISU basketball coaches at the tourney. ;) They had to do a car buying exercise using the typical salary of the job they shadowed. James could probably afford a pretty sweet car.

Daughter shadowed two different small vet practices. She had a good experience, although now after interacting with the vet techs she is thinking maybe that is the way to go. We are still encouraging her to keep her sights on being a vet. The first place she went did a good job at listing areas vets could work that she might not have thought about. She was jealous of a friend who job shadowed at a doggie daycare and just sent her snaps of hanging with dogs all day long. That would be her dream job at the moment.

For @cyrocksmypants pants and @GTO

Best horror movies of 2015 by my old ISU roomie. Only found out recently that he has been writing and podcasting horror movie reviews stuff.

I agree with Bone Tomahawk (highly recommended), Spring (not really that much of a horror movie IMHO, but still great), Dark was the Night, The Diabolical (more of a sci-fi movie, maybe even sci-fi/horror), and Hellions being on that list.
I started watching The Boy and fell asleep (might have to try watching it again, but didn't look very promising). Haven't watched Deadly Virtues (although that looks more like torture/horror, which I'm not big into), Nightmare Code, or Deathgasm. Blood Punch sounds familiar, but not sure if I watched it.

Kind of a new take on "having sex in horror movies will kill you" I suppose. It was a good movie. Didn't find it to fit very well in the horror category though.
There was a horror movie expert on NPR one time (when I lived in Des Moines and worked in Ames, I would listen to NPR during the morning drive) discussing some research he did for a book he wrote about the differences in horror movies when it comes to American vs. Asian horror movies.
One of the main things he said is that American horror movies are driven by sex. Protagonists either die during sex (think cheesy death scenes in Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street), after having sex, or more subtly, the protagonists exhibit sexual frustration/unfulfilled sexual desires. He basically said that, as a mostly Christian society, we use that to justify the characters death as a sort of punishment. After listening to this, I started noticing that when watching horror movies and can definitely see it.
On the other hand, he said that Asian horror is influenced by their feelings of dishonor. It's never about sex with them, but rather you can always see that the characters that get killed always have a sense of guilt over past transgressions. Those transgressions are usually revealed throughout the movie and really vary from movie to movie, but it is never anything related to sexual situations. I've watched a lot of Asian horror and can agree with this as well. If you watch movies like Pulse (the original Japanese one) or Infection, you can definitely feel this sense of dread and guilt throughout the whole movie. Very different vibe from American horror movies.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the author or the book, since this was 10+ years ago.

Finished reading Bob Hoovers biography "Forever Flying". I knew he was an amazing pilot before reading it but man the stuff he went through and did was amazing. I started reading Tony Dungy's Uncommon last night and enjoy it so far.

What are these things called "books" that you speak of? They are not in the urban dictionary I just googled. Anyway, I don't have time for "books"--whatever they are-- as I am pretty darn busy getting my outrage fix on Facebook. I'm outraged right now....love it. Feels good to be indignant of other people. I got a cousin who gets paid by John Podesta to post on Facebook all day long.....gets paid by the post.

soooooooo how many of you up in this area next weekend?

I'd be interested in going but Thursday is tough for me. I absolutely can't leave work before noon that day.

Is this an offer?

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mostly curious about a meetup in MKE. I do have spare rooms but we're not really close enough. We're on the right side of town though that DH and I wouldn't do a hotel, about 1:30 to the BMO center.

My parents and I might be going, and we might be staying in Madison and then driving over. Because 1:30 isn't a bad drive

yeah not bad, for us it'll be all 94. Figure most people will rather pay to be in MKE. But we'll see if someone I'm willing to let in my house needs a place to sleep, haha. Well, and if we can go or not.

Husband just booked a LaQuinta at the airport for $45. He really doesn't need to be downtown, as convenient as that might be.
