Random Thoughts IX (The first 8 were probably better)

I remember my American lit. class when I didn't study for a test. Came in that day, knowing I screwed up. Waited...waited...waited...no prof. And we waited around 15 minutes for a non-doctor, since he was older and held a lot of tenure. Eventually another professor came in to say he wouldn't be in, so no test.

Studied "hard" that night and got a B+ on that test. I'd also like to thank my 7th/8th grade history teacher for making us take notes on everything. Helped me with stamina in that literature class...all the writing.

So I'm getting my father one of those grizzly coolers for christmas, but am stuck what to get my mother. Any ideas?

The Alumni Association is trying to get me to celebrate my 20yr reunion date by offering a "retro" Cy shirt. Aka the worst set of colors/logos in Iowa State history. I still have enough of that stuff lying around, I am not buying a new shirt to remind me. I am a real retro lover--walking Cy from my childhood days.

Dear Iowa,

Please get all of your snowstorms out of the way before I have to drive home on Dec 22nd. My wife is a head case when it sprinkles and she's in the passenger seat. I don't think her nerves would survive if anything thicker than water fell from the sky.

Thank you

Yeah. You haven't lived until you take a 4 hour final where you are working hard the entire time!! I was late to my first law school final due to inclement weather, so that made it even more fun!

For my PhD exams, I had 4 of those.
Due to a professorial mistake, I did the last two back-to-back.

On the other hand, it was actually fun.

Cooler,

It is always great to hear from former Iowans. We will keep your thoughts in mind while deciding what the weather will be like on the 22nd. Please keep checking back and by all means show your wife our good friend Earl's website as well as that boy up in Canada. We guarantee that will keep her mind at ease.

Please stay in touch and say hit to our good friend Sam Brownback for us.

Sincerely,
Iowa

The big dude from Jacksonville State who scored the winning put back basket over the Hawks Chad Calabria that keep the Hawks from the Elite Eight in 1970. We were all watching on TV in the Dana house den. Before we even played Iowa so we were not really routing against them. Pembrook predates **** Iowa but he did.
I watched some basketball in the Dana House den--the one I remember best was the ISU-Kentucky game in 1992. Great game except for the ending.

Biology, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology.

214 was the anatomy and physiology class. Also the weedout for vet kids. Which is great, but I wasn't a vet kid. I knew people who took it three times. And still failed. Some people would go home during summer to NICC to take the "equivalent" so they could skip it at ISU. The tests had no multiple choice, some essay answer and he tested for what you didn't know. Basically going after nit picky things that probably weren't mentioned in class vs. going after concepts they wanted to be sure you knew. After Brant retired I heard the test became multiple choice. Weaklings. Think I got a A- or B+ in it and I was damn proud of that. And that was probably on only like a 75-80% in the class. Don't know if we had anyone hit 90%.

The lab was excellent though and I learned a lot in that. Probably learned more when I was a TA for it. Having to explain it to others makes you learn it well.
Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology. That was my home department for grad. school.

Ah yes, the 4 four hour exam. And god, that sounds like a nightmare. Though I like them better than taking 8 hour exams, and I won't take a 24 hour exam. My friends had to do that, and it sounded terrible

4 four hour exam?!?!?! Wow. 1 four hour exam would be brutal but 4 of the. That Would be awful. ;)
