Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

I know I shouldn't let it bother me, but I think it is pretty pathetic when people use CF to upsell tickets to Cyclone events that they purchased with the sole intent of fleecing ISU fans. Guys asking double or more of face value of tickets that can be purchased without a donation is pretty lame. It is one thing if someone sells a ticket or two that they can't use, but when they buy season tickets solely to resell I really question if they really are Cyclone fans - especially when their posting history is pretty much exclusively trying to unload full cards of season tickets.

I know that I am going to take some heat from some about what a service scalpers provide, but when you do it masquerading as a Cyclone fan you've lost what little respect I may have had for you.

100% Agree. Just like when scalpers wear an ISU hat or shirt while holding up a laminated "Need Tickets" sign with the stadium diagram on the back.

What service do scalpers provide?

I guess if someone really needs a ticket at the last minute they make them available. But I'd rather be able to get them through the school at the normal prices.

I don't think they do provide a real service; I just expect that argument to crop up shortly.

I ranted about the same thing a couple weeks ago. I also got in an argument in a ticket exchange thread about it, too. Scalpers add zero value to the product, just extra expense.

Back in the 80's there used to be scalpers in front of JTS. I never understood that. They must have been buying extra tickets from people for about $5 and trying to resell them for $10.
Outside of a few games you could walk up and buy a hillside ticket for about $5 and then sit anywhere you wanted.

With my dad doing alumni band this past weekend they had an extra ticket. My mom unknowingly went up to a couple of scalpers to sell it. They offered $5 and $10 when she was wanting to get $20 out of it. I held it up and within a couple of minutes had a student buy it for $20 just to get in the game.

It would be interesting to know how much these scalpers make.

I really miss being able to buy hillsides on game day. It was so nice to be able to take my kids to a game and get hillsides cheap whenever needed.

In one of the threads, somebody is asking about our recruits from Cincinnati. The only question I really want to ask is if they'll wear bow ties on their signing day.

And I was right there with you. I saw Velo's interaction as well. Same jerk...
I have tried to be entirely factual when I post to them. Just ask a question about the facts behind the tickets they are scalping so that any potential buyer knows exactly what they are getting - fleeced. I noticed that he opened another thread so my comments weren't attached to his offer to sell.

We used to do this when we took kids. We don't go enough to want to buy hillside tickets ourselves. My dad doesn't always have extras, so we don't always know what games are available. And why use an end zone ticket to just go sit on the hill with kids.

Saturday my dad ended up with 1 extra endzone ticket because my BIL did not come to the game. The people parked next to them happened to need just one, so he sold it to them.

He asked if we wanted to go to MBB 11/11. They must not be able to go, and if we don't want to go, ISU must be asking for people to donate tickets they aren't using to go to Veterans. I'll probably just let him do that.

Humble brag.

Honestly I was not expecting to end up in the end zone last weekend. He has 4 UL tickets that he has had forever, then he added 4 endzone tickets. There are 3 of them that usually sit in the end zone, so I figured I would sit in the other tickets. Two of the regulars went to the upper level with a son and friend. Then it was me, my dad, a friend he had invited, and the person he sold to never showed up in their assigned seat.

As an aside, the guys he goes to football (and wrestling with) have all been friends since at least kindergarten. They are now 75 years old. All ou I don't think I have talked to anyone in my kindergarten class except on FB. Small town living.

Decided to poke the bear a little more. We'll see where this goes. How much you want to bet he starts a new thread by this time tomorrow.

Just giving you a hard time. We nearly ended up in there too. Had an offer to buy four endzone seats and a parking pass for $100 on Saturday morning. If we had not already bought our tickets I would have gone for it.

It was my turn. ;) My 2 oldest and my husband have all gone to games and sat there. The one kid who did come with me had to sit on the hill with her cousin. :)
