Walking Dead

Guessing you rub one out to shows on Hallmark between breaks from using the Victoria Secret catalogs in your mom's basement? Those catalogs come to her house because she wears those clothes. Picture that next time you're spanking it.

I'm ok with the zombie gore. But last night's episode was just dumb. Not as dumb as some of the Morgan-episodes, but still dumb.

It's a bit of a repeating story line. Meet group of bad guys. Some of the goods guys are killed. Lots of the bad guys are killed. Rick and crew win and move to different location.

It's season 7 of a zombie show. Repetition is inevitable.

I have to admit I would have been pretty disturbed by the imagery last night if I hadn't read the comic, however Glenn's death including his bulging eyeball were basically taken straight from the pages of the book. I'm actually surprised because I felt like he was part of rick's circle of unkillables.

I tried Fear the Walking Dead but found myself wanting a lot of the main characters to die right away, so really had no point in tuning in. Maybe it's improved since.

It hasn't. I rode it all the way through end of the second season and the only thing I know is that I would be happy to see any/all of the main characters killed. It's garbage.

I don't, know it's just one of those shows where now I'm just watching to see how it ends just like Nip/Tuck and Lost. It's not that good anymore.

Oh, please don't bring up Nip/Tuck. I loved that show until it went off the rails.

I was where you are, last season. So many dumb decisions that led to people dying. Way too much repetitiveness. I'll admit Negan brings a different angle to this because Rick doesn't get to make all the decisions, which frankly might be a good thing, but he sucked at it last season.

I have yet to hear how critics think it should have been handled?

Negan is a brutal and merciless man. Would you prefer they just pan left and say, "Abe and Glenn died."

The whole point of the brutality was to break Rick's character and watching him sob on the top of the camper drove it home.

That and the fantasy flash forward of what could have been with Glenn holding his son next to Abe at the dinner table, that was what actually got a real emotional response from me.

This show isn't for the faint of heart or little kids. They've made that pretty clear before this season.

If they kept up the norm and made it PG last night you would have had a lot more people quitting on the show, because they'd say it was boring.

Yep.

(a) If people want to quit watching, doubt AMC could give two craps. Just don't be a hypocrite and say you are done, then show up here weekly and tell us why you think the show is bad. Have fun watching Kardashians.

(b) It seems the main criticism in that blog is that the episode had no character development. That is pretty much TWD formula. Have an over the top episode then spend weeks on character stories. I am sure Morgan and Carol are going to be amazingly exciting this week. And seriously, they don't think Rick's character was developed?

(c) How could anyone be shocked? Did you not see the season finale? You knew at least one was going down at a barb wire wrapped baseball bat in the hands of someone that routinely bashes in skulls.

"... to break Rick's character..." again, and again, and yet again, and (oh wait for it!) again. It used to be just tired and monotonous punctuated by "Deep Thoughts in Gardening and Knitting with Morgan". But with the new Governegan character... no, just the same.

Then why are you still watching?

I thought it was far removed from the Governor era. Back then you'd see a secondary character or two die, and maybe one main character like Andrea. But Rick and Co still saved the day and came out on top.

This one's going to take a lot more to come out on top of.

this guy complains about a show he watches every week

That was a pretty good write-up. I tweeted last night that I believed that the episode was the shark-jumping episode #thedaythedeaddied. But this quote from that article said it best: "This wasn’t quality television, and it wasn’t suspenseful drama. It was torture-porn masquerading as storytelling, and AMC should be ashamed for airing it."

But, there was one line in last night's episode I laughed at... when Negan called Lucille a vampire bat. That **** was funny.
Anything I've seen that was described as torture porn goes WAY beyond what they showed last night. That was pretty tough last night, but nothing compared to real torture porn or hardcore horror flicks. I hate that crap.

Surprised that was the violence that pushed people over the edge. They've had that level of violence and gore quite a few times, only difference is it happened to a longtime character. You'll get your character development in every other episode this season.

What about Neagen is like the governor? The governor was a completely different type of a hole. He was deceitful, manipulative, and tried to rule by being smarter than everyone else. Neagan is about ruling through brute force and fear, he's not trying to fool anyone about what belonging to his little gang means.

How INhuman do you have to be to just stand there and watch it happen? This is one of those times where I think I wouldn't survive very long in the TWD world...it's tough picturing myself aligning with someone like Negan for protection.

Lack of options and fear. Some of those folks who have aligned with him have family they have to think about. Its more complex than most of us realize. Why did so many people in Germany join the Nazi regime? You think they enjoyed what they were asked to do? Some yes, but not all, but what were their options.

Its crazy how people like him rise to power. They prey on the fear, then they trap you with "security" if you join. Gang like mentality.

I get that. But in the comfort and safety of my own little 'verse it's hard for me to imagine it. I'd like to think I would be in the resistance in a situation like Germany, or in a less aggressive group like the Alexandrites (pre-Rick), but who really knows? Those people tend to die faster...maybe my self-preservation instincts are stronger than I think?

Im with you. Ricks group may have been luckier to form how they did. They went out and collected like minded individuals along the way. More cautious. Negan storms everyone and anything he can. They dont have time to think, they either submit or die.
