Like Clone2DBone said earlier, this is Bowlsby's poker face:
"Networks, either give us a better deal to stay at 10 schools, or else you are going to be paying more for the TV contracts when we add 2 of these un-attractive candidates"
There is wiggle-room for those 3 un-named schools to be from a P5 conference, so maybe this gets the networks asking "who are those candidates, and what can we offer that will sweeten this network deal to land those bigger fish?"
This is a power-play by the Big12 and I'm all for that, but what I don't want is them to do is announce that they have extended invitations shortly after these presentations have been made.
I hope you're right because if not we sure look like morons.
"Here are 17 schools with worse resumes than Louisville whose beg to join we rejected that we're considering adding now." is what it looks like to me compared to the Big Ten simply saying Nebraska is in the Big Ten now or SEC saying A&M is in the SEC now.
But again, there are only 14 schools on that list. Who are the other three schools? I don't think the Big 12 wants this to get out, or the other three schools, so they're trying to keep it hidden. Saying they're not going to expand by more than two teams fits into that perfectly as well. If they keep saying we're not going to expand by more than 2 teams they can cover their butts, and say we did nothing unethical or illegal.
I feel this way unless the PAC schools are truly available. With those additions, the Big12 would take care of their stability issues, GOR or not.

Sca-rew that! This conference has been gutted. Time to fight back or just give it up.

While I believe a Pac12/Big12 merger is the best way for the schools in those two conferences to earn similiar money as the Big10 & SEC for TV rights. I find it tough to believe that Arizona, ASU and CU could think about defecting without there being more of a stir by the other nine members and insider articles by west coast media. Especially if their TV network is in dire shape.
AZ, ASU and CU all have greater value than any of the schools consistently mentioned as expansion candidates, including BYU. However, the prize schools in the Pac12 are USC, UCLA, Stanford and Oregon from a TV rights standpoint.
If there is any truth to the rumor, AZ, ASU and CU are the smoke and USC, UCLA, Stanford and Oregon are the fire and true targets of the Big12.
IMO if there is any chance of existing Pac12 schools joining the Big12, FOX is going to need to help facilitate such a move as they are the Pac12s network partner and own part of the Big12s TV rights til 2024.

The term "merger" concerns me. Unless we're looking at a 22 team superconference some schools are going to be left out.
Now we're talking about a complete bloodbath with lawyers and schools being left out.
It concerns me too, because no way the combined conference includes 22 teams. However after 2024, Texas and OU are going to maximize their revenue and under no scenario does that include the current BIG12 schools plus any non-P5 expansion candidates being mentioned.
At this point, the only way to avoid lawyers (either school or TV Network) is for the Big12 to stand pat.

The last quote sums it up perfectly.
The B12's and P12's T1/T2 deals with ESPN/Fox are essentially the same except for some variance in the total payouts. Both networks would be involved in a merger scenario but, on the surface, it would be a somewhat seamless merger for T1/T2.
Fox currently has nothing to do with PACN but they would seem to be the most likely buyer of PACN if it is sold but this might be where an outsider like Google might want to get involved with CFB. The hangup with T3 in the B12 is ESPN's ownership of LHN so any merger scenario likely won't include Texas assuming ESPN has no interest in selling or buying out LHN.
I actually have a vocal range of about 12 notes and I say that the PAC 12 schools tend to be in the mountain and Pacific Coast states. Does that help?
Also, if expansion was based upon the attractiveness of the co-eds I'd take ASU, UCLA and USC.
