Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

oh so the pie feud. So friend's mother is a pastry chef at a restaurant in another town further away. I guess when other people were opening pie place near me, they went to her place to try the pies. They then proceeded to make comments about how theirs were so much better, they were going to put her out of business, made a mess (pie on the floor), and left.

We don't really understand the "put them out of business" part because it'd be like someone selling pies in Ankeny saying they'd put someone in Ames out of business. They're plenty far enough apart.

Was outside early cause only 80 out and a fox trotted* by in my lawn about 20 feet away. Cool. He slowed down and was checking me out like a dog that might stop to be petted. Nope, you be cool and all but just keep trotting along. He is welcome back to eat some rabbits, squirrels or chipmunks....there too many of them here.

Lots of good smells when Reilly visits: fox, squirrel, chipmunk, rabbit, feral cat, basset hound, and deer. Bonus for little dogs is that Rose our mail carrier has dog treats.

* Foxes trot, they don't jog etc, it's why they called that dance the Fox Trot.

They trot and they lope. And the kits are adorable (and surprisingly yellow in color).

Well, they certainly showed a lot of class...

Honest to Pete, I think the custodians must be bored with the students not around (no classrooms to clean). I think this is the third time this week they've polished the damn floors in the hallway, and that blasted machine they ride is LOUD!!!

Saw this on Facebook. Pretty sure if we had an oldest t-shirt contest I would win going away with my mid to late '80's road race t-shirts. Won't even have to drag out the vintage Dana House tee from 1971.

I'd be spreading that story around so people know what type of business they are running. That is despicable, childish behavior.

T-shirts, no.
But I still have a full-length hooded wool coat from high school, and a dress that my mother made me from back then as well. And a year or so ago, my sister brought a bag from a back closet at her house that contained my formal dress from a High School Homecoming dance and the bridesmaid dress I wore at her wedding (also made by my mother). :)

I have a late 80s aerosmith concert shirt. Guns and roses opened for them at Hilton. Think 1987/1988. A few early 90s ones. I can't find my Dana shirts anymore.

Coyotes have arrived in the neighborhood and I thought maybe they had driven out the foxes so I was glad to see one.

I've never seen a coyote on our property or close by, but I've seen them in the cornfields about a half-mile away. We hear them frequently in the summer, though (they like to run along the creek bed that bisects our property from east to west. They yip as they run, and it creates a doppler effect (loudest when they are directly below the house).

I also have a football practice shirt from 7th grade that I used 6 years, my oldest used until last year and he gave it to my youngest to use this year. 10-11 years of wear. Getting our money out and a little family tradition.

I have a bunch of early 90's concert T's from working at Hilton. I also have a high school practice jersey circa 1984. My oldest item are my Dad's figure skates that I still used up until last Christmas when Mrs. Velo took pity on me and bought me some new hockey skates. Those are from about 1954.

FB and crazy texts are showing that a shocking number of my casual friends and acquaintances would have been Blackshirts back in Mussolini's Italy of the 1920's and '30's.

So we are going dark today. Saved a few inbox messages with personal contact stuff I didn't want to lose. Not sure if that stuff will migrate to new platform or not.

See you all on the other side.

Based on the number of seemly otherwise "normal" people who have collectively lost their ******* minds I think I am going to spend the CF downtime moving my 401k assets into a safer hunker down and survive haven.
