Amazing that we went through I think 3 different placekickers in 2004 before we found one that could make a PAT and a FG.

99 days until kickoff. The '99 football season was somewhat of a turning point for Iowa State football. It would be a hard fought season and one where the Cyclones would lose 4 games by a touchdown or less, two which were to top 15 teams. Sage Rosenfels took over the reigns at quarterback and had a very solid season, as well as Darren Davis and Ennis Haywood at RB. This would be the season that set the stage for the Cyclones to get their first bowl victory in school history the next year.

I am jacked already and it is only end of May! I love Cyclone Football - what a great luxury I get to see a P5 team within 30 minutes of my house! Has my alma mater been stellar - no but that does not decrease my enthusiasm nor my expectation. For reference I am a Cubs fan - that should explain it all! Rather than focusing on the season I try and stay with each game as each is an event all it's own! It is hard when victories don't pile up but the fight remains to be a true fan - this is my team and I back them always!

In the '96 season, Troy Davis ran for 2,185 yards, including a 378 yard game in a win against Missouri. It would be Troy's second straight season of 2,000+ yards rushing, still remaining the only RB to ever do so. His historic '96 season still lands him #6 on the NCAA single season rushing yards list, and Troy would finish a close 2nd in Heisman voting that year, finishing ahead players like Jake Plummer, Warrick Dunn, and Peyton Manning.

If ISU had used that uniform set for the current design — with slight modernizing tweaks and the I-State logo — then ... eh, hell, I'm tired of what-iffing it.

Dan McCarney would be hired away from his defensive coordinator position at Wisconsin, and would go on to coach what would become the most successful era in Iowa State football history. Although it took a few years for McCarney to build the program, he would eventually lead the Cyclones to 5 bowl games in 6 years, including the first bowl win in program history.
