Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

The USA Today article about best unsigned players says "most say it's between Georgia and Iowa State".

This would be like an inverse of the Tyler Catalina situation.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Interesting.. You think Romelo would sign with us even if there was a slim chance he'd start his Freshman year though?

I'd say he would have a very serious chance to start if he can prove he's Big 12 ready.

I don't know who Georgia has but it's not like he's a guard coming to ISU this year.

Not sure, but I do know that there is a very good chance he would start his freshmen year. Last I checked we really don't have solid 4 or 5.
Holden, Bowie, Burton, and Young. Bowie and Burton would certainly be capable, but slightly undersized at the 4 or 5.

If he's legit 6'8" and a legit top 100 player he's going to get a ton of minutes as a freshman whether he starts or not.

I actually think that's one of Prohm's selling points to get him interested again. I'm sure he told him he as just as good a chance to start as anyone else in the front court.

There is a very good chance Romello will play major minutes in the front court next year after Malou turning pro possibly even start. I don't want to put high expectations on a freshman post but, he is currently going up against two stretch 3-4 in Burton and Bowie, new transfer Holden and underclassmen Carter Lard Young. Mintues are available for a true C/PF. White has the size to contribute and should be looking at available minutes he can earn looking at his current class rating.

Our offense would be lethal with White, and our rotation deep. I would see our rotation as:

White (24)
Burton (28)
Thomas (28)
Long (24)
Morris (32)

Jackson (20)
Bowie (16)
Holden (16)
Babb (12)

Long, Young, Lard, Carter - spot minutes

I took a quick look at Georgia's roster, they don't have any post players currently coming in but do have a number of young PF/C's already on the roster. I am not sure if the roster is current as of today or if there could have been transfers out since the end of the season.

Remember White originally decided to stay close to home in Georgia by chossing GT so that could factor in again. Of course he decided against UGA originally opting for the GT tire fire program instead. So there must have been original reservations with playing style, coaching or system for Romello.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Our offense would be lethal with White, and our rotation deep. I would see our rotation as:

White (24)
Burton (28)
Thomas (28)
Long (24)
Morris (32)

Jackson (20)
Bowie (16)
Holden (16)
Babb (12)

Long, Young, Lard, Carter - spot minutes

You have 2 posts, and both are projected minutes for hypothetical lineups. Not bashing, just find it sorta odd. Carry on.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

The last R. White we had did pretty good so hopefully this one does too.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Right now we're #36 on 247 for the 2016 class, adding White would put us at #23 and neither of those numbers include Malou who has already been removed from our commitment list. That would be a remarkable class for Prohm considering the situation

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

I've never seen him play in person, so this is just what I've read and seen on video...He has a great frame. Getting into a college S&C program, and if he has some work ethic, he can become a monster. He looks to have good hands and is comfortable with the ball in traffic. Pretty soft touch finishing around the rim. Feet look nimble, he has some mobility go with his size. As with most young big men, he sometimes plays a little stiff. I wouldn't call him an above the rim player like Holden will be for us. But again, he looks comfortable playing inside. Have no idea on his face-up game or pick-pop ability, or defensively.

I'm not going to count him in yet, as it appears we are against some solid competition. But a visit is certainly encouraging. If we get him, it would just be another frontcourt option that we need this season, not to mention his future potential in the following years. Out of Carter, Lard, Young, and possibly White, that is a little more encouraging that we hit on a couple solid contributors.

Hey Romello you want to come here and play 24 minutes a game!??!!

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Are you telling me that this guy is still in high school? Go, Coach Prohm.
