I am going to apply something in the currently demonized neonicotinoid family to my magnolia to control the evil magnolia scale today. Applying with a dench and after the tree has completed blooming so no bees will be endangered. I am not an indiscriminate total chemical warfare guy but sometimes a small tactical application of death to insects stuff is needed.

Neonicotinoid is currently one of my favorite words. The word only, not the product.

I have zero problem with people using chemicals or refusing to use chemicals. I do have a problem with people using myths and pseudo-science to push their personal decision on others.

I'll also add that's how I am with all things in life. But it really bothers me when the facts are out there and people continually choose non-scientific resources to fit their agenda. Same goes for people using Dr. Oz or David Wolfe or Food Babe.

Hopefully not like sissy on urban cowboy!!

he actually stayed on the longest of anyone we watched. My video of it was 38 seconds and he was on when it started. It helped that he was pretty sober. This one dude stumbled on to the bull, sat on the rope and then fell before it even made half a turn. He gets back on, sits on the rope again and tries to reach for the horns to hold on. His friend comes out and pulls the rope out for him to hold on to. He stayed on for like 5-10 seconds then.

I was intending a very simple wedding with PapaLew (both of us were divorced). That got shot all to hell when he figured out I had eloped the first time, and had never worn a wedding gown. It sort of exploded from there.

We had multiple attendants (our six kids plus my friend who "introduced" us). We did NOT do a registry, in fact we specifically requested NO gifts as we already were combining two full households & 3 of the six kids into one house and we had enough STUFF already. Nearly full church and big reception with a DJ. Yeah, it was kind of overblown for it not being our first marriages...but in retrospect I'm glad he pushed for the formal wedding. It was the experience of a lifetime for me. :)

PapaLew smart man. Everything is situational when it comes to "rules of thumb" stuff and PL got the situation right. :)

I think the widespread use of neonicotinoids is bad ****. I worry that pushback will get it banned for all use. Using it indiscriminately on nursery grown perennial flowering plants is evil if enough of it remains in the flowers to kill stuff. Seems crazy to have something to protect against other insects that you buy for the flowers killing bees. I can see in the future I might not be able to buy it and have to pay a Davey Tree of someone to apply it. I did do my research and there isn't really anything else that works on Magnolia scale. A 20 SF surface drench isn't getting into the watertable and isn't much taken up by other surrounding plants. Got it originally from a guy who reps it and other chems to golf course etc. And being a nerd I read and reread the instructions half a dozen times and repeated that again today before I mixed it up.

Oooo, must drag bike out.

Temp: 72
Dewpoint: 30 degrees
Wind Speed : Calm (WTF!?! Whar the 20 mph wind gusts!)

We loaded der hund and the kids' bikes in the van, went for a hike in CV this morning. Trying to decide if I should mow lawn or get ahold of my buddy and see if we want to throw the frisbees around with the kiddos.

Speaking of mechanical bulls, did any RTT people ride the bull at Coyote Ugly at the Liberty Bowl? There were some drunk Cyclone fans on it when I was there.

Bike ride went better then first ride of season. I think the body shock is maybe past although the big hill was way hard for old out of shape me. I have a really nice 16 to 20 mile route over to the lakes, around em, and back home but I hit the only really big hill at 1 mile before you even get warmed up. No reasonable route to avoid it.

Now off to lakeside bar for my reward beer.

Pants Mother's Day card.

Personally don't think you are wrong and it pisses me off when a wedding party can't show up to the reception on time. Get your drink on at the reception and be courteous to your guests. Sound like it was pretty fancy and I realize Mrs. GTO was the best woman there, but was there a good ratio of attractive ladies there?
I didn't look around much (busy with baby GTO), but it was meh as far as attractive ladies from what I could tell. And, no, Mrs. GTO is not looking over my shoulder.
