Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Couple of issues I had with today's wedding/reception:

1. Wedding was at 1:00 in the afternoon and lasted until 2:30pm. Took 30 minutes to drive there and 30 minutes to come back home. Then, the reception was not until 6:00 (took an hour to drive there), but the bride and groom don't show up until 7:30pm. Stayed until 9:45 and took another hour to drive back home. Is it inconsiderate to plan your reception that much later than the wedding ceremony? Felt like our whole day was spent on "their" special day.

2. Should a second marriage ceremony ever be this elaborate? Multiple bridesmaids/groomsmen, huge/fancy reception party with multiple performers, full gift registry (china, kitchenware, etc), 3 wedding coordinators, etc. Keep in mind these people are divorced, are in their 40s, and already have their own houses, etc.

Am I wrong here?

Personally don't think you are wrong and it pisses me off when a wedding party can't show up to the reception on time. Get your drink on at the reception and be courteous to your guests. Sound like it was pretty fancy and I realize Mrs. GTO was the best woman there, but was there a good ratio of attractive ladies there?

This prolly all has a lot to do with why this was a second marriage ceremony.

I avoid weddings, especially after the one where I sat by lawman In a balcony. 1 1/2 hours in a balcony, full suit, middle of June or July with no air conditioning and it was packed.

BTW, happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there, and muthers, since they don't really have a day besides their day in court.

Are you bringing chicken?

I'm assuming the chicken comment is from the discussion about fast food chicken, but the first thing I thought of was bacon wrapped chicken on your smoker. I was going to ask directions to your house, I would try that.

Bacon....I am actually going to go thru my chest freezer this morning, I couldn't find any of my homemade bacon last night in prep for mothers' day. That's a situation that needs to be rectified, had to settle for second rate bacon. Actually took half of it directly from the oven to the trash can. (BTW, if you haven't made bacon in the oven, it's awesome. Cold oven, lay the bacon out on a cooling rack on a sheet pan, set the oven to 400 and cook until you're happy. I usually make a pound at a time, it doesn't wrinkle up, and I put the extras in a paper towel in a ziploc in the fridge until it's gone).

Interesting since there is nothing on the schedule of being at WVU.

We had a busy day today. Woke up and went to Davenport for a rusty pilots seminar with my dad. Had a good conversation on where he is stands how serious he is about getting back into this. Also made a little thing for mothers day of LittleWx's feet, got groceries and went to see my buddy. I am beat.
It makes me wonder if they were at VA. Tech for some reason. That's the way home from Blacksburg

Seriously, WTF and how/why do you know these people?

I would think Venice would be a better place for someone with a strong collection of boat shoes.

Disposable galoshes are all the rage.

I'm gonna guess it was work or wife's side/friends. If I remember right I think she's Indian.

Cross post to GMackey you want to see some chem burn down you should see some multi-flora rose that I hit with Crossbow a couple a days ago. Too early to know if I killed it but sure set it back. That plant is Satan's spawn.

I am going to apply something in the currently demonized neonicotinoid family to my magnolia to control the evil magnolia scale today. Applying with a dench and after the tree has completed blooming so no bees will be endangered. I am not an indiscriminate total chemical warfare guy but sometimes a small tactical application of death to insects stuff is needed.
