Emmanuel Malou thread

Reasons for transferring according to Alex Halsted 1) Way cheaper living in Iowa compared to Cali and easier access to Ames 2) He may need to take 1 or 2 classes this summer so he will be eligible for the fall and if he is taking those classes at DMACC he will still be able to play in the Cap City League. No need to overreact and think his eligibility is at risk for next fall or anything..

This may not sound like that big of a deal unless you read Hines' article about him. It sounds like his living conditions were pretty depressing at YUBA and he wasn't even allowed access to the gym when he wanted and it sounds like he basically wanted to live in it. He shouldn't have those issues here, and he should be able to get to know the players and Ames before that all gets thrust on him next year. I see this as nothing but awesome for us and him.

I don't take this as a good sign.

How about this:

Hines: ISU signee to continue living in poor conditions 1000 miles away from people that actually care about his ISU future.

You're trying way to hard to set up the "I told everyone!". If he graduates he plays, doesn't matter where it is.

On a serious note/questions:

1: Will he be allowed access to the Sukup building and/or be able to watch practices?
2: Will ISU be able to lend an advisor role in his classes at DMACC (meaning making sure the classes he takes 1 gets him his degree and 2 setting up the classes so he can have some extra credits going into Iowa State to help keep his workload manageable)

Edit: Didnt see someone asked about the sukup before me

Encouraging that he knew he needed to get academics squared away. Hope this works out the way we all want, he's a top notch player and the team really needs him next season.

I'm not saying it's a bad strategy, I'm saying this is signaling some serious eligibility question marks.

It is what it is, but they have to be somewhat significant for him to stop playing and abruptly transfer.

If you are right, I want to throw up.....

Way to pull a thought straight out of your ***, run to a message board to declare it as fact, and hold it high for everyone to see.

About #2, I don't know if ISU can help, but DMACC certainly has advisors familiar with what classes transfer to Iowa State, and familiar with what classes are needed to graduate from DMACC.

No less or no more than the people saying this is great and it couldn't possibly mean that there are concerns.

Just because you don't like hearing it, doesn't mean it's any less valid.

We're all speculating here and the Scout reporter has said previously that it's not as simple as him just graduating. There are still NCAA concerns.

Great. Somehow I don't see this working out well for us.

Diallo is allowed to play for KU, but the NCAA will come down on Malou and ISU... just watch. Uggghhh.

WTF? Are you completely ignorant of the Malou recruitment? Either way you are way off base here.

acgclone is spot on. Given the situation, the move to DMACC is good, but that does not mean the situation causing the move is good. I guess the good news is that this is not a new concern and perhaps it was even in the works or discussed on his visit.

More than likely is that he knew he was going to need to take classes through the summer. He probably decided it would be more useful to him to be close to Ames where he can be around teammates and coaches. That seems a lot more useful than playing the second semester at a CC. All most kids learn playing in CC are bad habbits during the season

Yeah, I am shocked we do not see all jucos shut it down ASAP after signing day.

Lol. This is some classic message board optimism.

You are right we probably need to see a lot more out of his play this year before we decide whether he will be good or not...the main concern is getting him to get his AA...that is all that matters at this point.

And yes it is a lot more important to a kid that already has an NBA body and talent

Isn't it pretty standard for basketball players to take a lighter load of classes spring semester and then load up over the summer? Maybe taking a full load in the spring and summer was going to be too much along with playing bball as well so in order to make sure everything goes smooth with his academics, he just made the move now. I don't see this as a 100% positive thing but if he made the move to ensure he'll be ready to enroll next fall, then it makes sense. At this point in his career, making sure he graduates is more important than finishing the season at Yuba.

DMACC to Iowa State.

He's taking the UraMallas path-to-greatness. Good for him!

Yeah, I gave followed him from the whole ABCD prep fiasco. He has to graduate JUCO. None of you have any idea what this move means. It could mean he is having issues with graduating, or it could just mean he wants to get back to Iowa earlier and be closer to the team. If he can finish up his studies here why not. Playing JUCO probably doesn't offer him much benefit anymore, and is just an added injury risk. How does moving to DMACC make it easier for him to graduate exactly? He could just as easily quit basketball and stay where he is at to focus on studies.

Well, being closer to the resources needed to know where the bar is set is always better. Being this close to Coach Prohm helps him academically and gives him a support system that has a much higher interest in seeing him graduate from CC. That isn't even taking into account being around the guys, which I'm sure he's ready for that switch after his conditions at Yuba. I am not saying it isn't a bit concerning but he is taking the necessary steps even if they seem a little out-of-the-ordinary and drastic, at least he's doing what is needed.
