More new coaches confirmed...

I don't think you know that the plural of "ellipsis" is "ellipses". Apparently he doesn't either since he prefaced it with "an".

That's grammatically correct, though. "I don't think you know how to properly use an elipses," becomes "I don't think you know how to properly use an ellipsis."

Conventional Wisdom = you have to Recruit Texas and Florida
Conventional Wisdom = You cannot win at Iowa State
$%^& conventional wisdom.

CMC obviously has a plan and is going to work hard to get the best football players he can. The idea that only Texas and Florida football players can be successful is just bias. Texas has a great football tradition, but not every great football player comes from Texas. Hey, recruit Florida and Texas for sure, but i like his focus on the midwest.

We are the midwest's Big 12 team, we need to own it and sell it. 9 conference games and testing yourself against the best offenses in the country. Do we really want kids that want easy schedules? It's spin, yes. But you have to spin to sell. Your greatest strength is your greatest weakness, and vice versa, so use it.

Frankly, I did not think I would say this, but the attitude is a breathe of fresh air. CPR, who I was a big supporter of, beat Texas and still said he couldn't recruit against them. Attitude is everything.

Your last paragraph is why I was ready to escort CPR out the door myself. Instead of playing the little engine that could card he was playing the little engine that COULDN'T card. It made me sick to my stomach

I like the thought of CMC recruiting the Midwest especially Ohio - this is at least a strategy that has not been tried recently. Makes me think of Snyder at K-State using a bold new strategy down there to recruit JC players. Hopefully this bold new strategy will work as well as Snyder's.

I have never been a fan of coaches that bring their buddies with them. Interview and pick the best candidates out there. What works at Toledo is different than what works here. Hope Campbell proves me wrong here.

It's like Episode III: Revenge of the Derp around here lately.

EDIT: A Hickory, NC newspaper says he's accepting a HC position so I guess my fun is over.

“We appreciate Coach Shields’ commitment to our exceptional athletes and football program of LRU,” LRU President Dr. Wayne Powell said in a news release.

Powell indicated Shields has accepted a head coaching position at a yet unannounced NCAA Division I level program.

Don't see any connection though to MC. Shields spent a lot of time on the west coast while MC was in Ohio.

With all the coaching changes and those new head coaches needing coordinators or position coaches, what makes one think he'd be tied to us? Since he was in Oregon a lot, maybe to go on Scott Frost's staff?

Well now is the State of Texas in the Big XII footprint....Well HELLO Yes recruiting Texas is important but also getting players from the Midwest is also important and easier to recruit to Iowa State....

Here's a question...........Why cant we recruit both the Midwest and Texas......I believe CMC can do both and do it extremely well and oh btw don't judge his recruiting by this 1st class......Then Again be my guest.

Go Cyclones

Half of Missouri's roster was from Texas until Missouri left the Big XII and most of Pinkel's staff were from Toledo. The key is to assign 2 or 3 coaches to recruit Texas and sign 8 to 10 Texas recruits a year. After a while you bring in a Texas recruit for a visit and he sees 30 to 40 Texans on the roster. Supplement that with Midwest guys - sounds like a plan.

ill be happy if these coaches can recruit the Midwest really well. Just imagine if its cold in November and a southern school has to come play us at home and most of our players come from the Midwest and are use to the cold. While the Texas players huddle up with coats and hand warmers our players are trotting out there with no sleeves and smiling. We still need to recruit Texas and Florida but how about we go after some recruits around us like Minnesota. I grew up in Minnesota and one thing I know is they play power running football. Which is the kind of recruits we need.

The big twelve will never send any of its highly ranked southern teams to Ames late in the season.

Yep. It never happened all that often in the first place, but #2 OSU losing up here pretty much sealed that one.
