Hey Chris Williams.....previous commits?

It's not about CPR being their coach if they go elsewhere. It is about trusting and being comfortable with the coach. The thing that brought a lot of guys here over other schools was they trusted and felt more comfortable with CPR and or their position coach, now that those people are gone from their lives they probably feel they need to find that at other school.

I am not saying I want people to transfer because I don't. But I understand where they are coming from. I don't really think people understand how close these players were with CPR and his staff.

I understand the trust and being comfortable with CPR and the staff. But playing for CPR and the staff is NOT an option. That option no longer exists. So now you have to decide on whether you want to take a chance on this staff and coach......at ISU.....and remain where you have been comfortable going to school, have established friends, and have experienced the facilities and fans........or you can roll the dice and go someplace new and give up all of your friends and teammates who will be staying at Iowa State.

When you look at it in that context, it makes little sense to leave. You will have far more adjustment in leaving then you will in staying. And you will be giving up a full season of eligibility if you have used your RS and want to transfer to another FBS school. That is why so much emphasis is placed on "Iowa State" in the recruiting process instead of solely on the coaches.

I get that the players feel like they were hurt with this move, but wouldn't the see it coming down the pipe? The program was 3-9, 2-10, and 3-7 the week before he was fired. I mean, there was nothing Leath, JP, or anyone could do but let Paul go.

They won't get all of them back this time. Chizik was a situation where there was a team that had been abandoned and when someone else came in and showed they cared, it was really something those players needed and appreciated. This is different. Completely different in terms of that dynamic.

I agree it was a different situation but my point remains. Football players that are starters for a Big 12 team don't transfer. Let alone when they have already used their redshirt. They can be upset about CPR being gone all they want, but the thought of having to sit out a year + lose a year will be to much for them to overcome.

Here are the guys in our two deep that haven't used a redshirt:

Offense
Lazard
Thomas
Wesley
Epps

Defense
Jordan Harris
Tribune
Mike Johnson
Wiltz

3 of those guys on defense will be seniors.

I know that. Different strokes for different folks.

Some guys will buy in right away, some guys might not buy in at all. It happens.

Here's the guys I would be worried about losing that have made significant contributions and are young:

Reggan Northrup RFr
Brian Peavy RFr
Willie Harvey RFr

Agree here. Any recruiting service is going to be quite handy for them. Toledo staff has no familiarity with the recruits in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and Illinois most likely. A great place to start and find names would be 247, Scout, and Rivals. I'm sure they aren't on their looking at starzzz like we do. Probably part of Campbell's 4 hour radius strategy.

You do realize that we got a commitment from an Iowa QB yesterday and they have already offered kids from each of these states other than maybe Wisconsin. They have familiarity with these states

Jordan Harris used his redshirt his first year at ISU. And I thought Mike Johnson redshirted this fall. At least he was redshirting at one time.

Yes, unless you are a starter. Then this scenario wouldn't make sense. Jeremy said there were about 8 starters that are considering or thinking about it and also said maybe he could see 4-5 less impactful players could still leave. To me, if you are a starter, why risk transferring to a new program with no guarantees. I realize there aren't any here either, but you have a head start.

Now the recruiting class is a different story. I expect some fallout to happen.

After they meet one on one with Matt Campbell, they will likely stay IMO. CPR is not an option at this point. They would be rolling the dice and going somewhere else new.......new school, new teammates, new friends......and will have a new coaching staff there as well.

Only about 8 starters? Lol..only? Sorry I trust you 99% of time but I highly doubt 8 guys who started last year are considering leaving. That would mean that basically every starter outside all the jucos that started are considering leaving? No juco is leaving..they can't really. Warren, Lazard, Lanning are all staying. DM isn't going anywhere. Burton isn't going anywhere. We return around 14-15 starters. I just named 5 I know aren't leaving..plus we have what 5 jucos who will be seniors starting? So at max that would leave 4-5 that I guess could bolt. Highly doubt it. Maybe 1 starter leaves. Now in the 2 deep..sure I could see maybe 3-5 guys not being happy.

He probably means eight starters for next year. Some move up when the seniors graduate. Redshirt freshman and sophomores are probably more in play.

Correct, Jordan is a Redshirt Senior, same with Tucker so I'm sure they'll go out together. Mike Johnson did a grey shirt semester then redshirt year, so he should be a a red-shirt freshman this coming season. I can't see Mike leaving, he's already been waiting to play for a year and a half...

The sooner Campbell hires a DC, then I would guess the more likely he can convince those guys to stay. If we don't have a DC for another month, then I can understand how those guys could get antsy about who they're playing for.

Anyone thinking there's going to be an exodus of current players is out of their mind.
One thing about an exodus. Once a couple leave, many more follow. The key is to keep an exodus in check. When people look around and see friends leaving, it makes it easier to leave Dodge.

Johnson was a grey shirt so he already lost one year off the clock before he got here. If he transfers, that leaves him only 2 years left without playing a single snap of college football.

Meh, the only one I was a bit worried about was Campos and he looked pretty up-beat on his interview after the presser. I guess my expectations are lower than a lot of people for MCs first season. I expect growing pains and changes and a bowl-less first campaign. I can't help but be pleased with the recruiting aggression so far by this infant staff.

I realize that. I also realize that you have Peavy, Ruth, Harvey, Mills, and a bunch of RS freshmen that will play next year and we can't afford to lose them. That's not to mention OL (which I think will be given the best reasons to stay. I mean, even if you just lost Thomas, for instance, that's a big hit. Wesley would be a big hit. Epps would be a big hit. Then you have a guy like Seth Nerness who will have to play in 17, if not 16. I don't think there will be some mass exodus but the idea of losing 5 guys from the two-deep is not comforting and will affect the bottom line.

Grey shirting doesn't lose eligibility.

Because you essentially are already in a new program. Unless you are Moya, Warren, Lazard or Lanning, there are no guarantees.
