Hey Chris Williams.....previous commits?

One positive thing about making the move this year was that we didn't have a large senior class. Therefore the new coaches don't have to put together a huge class just to fill spots. Even with some attrition it will probably be a regular to slightly larger class of recruits.

There are a few that would have a decent impact if they left, no question. I would say out of all the rumors, there are only about 8 starters that are truly considering leaving. Out of those, only 4 - maybe 5 - would really have an impact, in my opinion.

As long as the staff can keep the guys from making any decisions until they get to know the new coaches and hear the plans they have, we should be able to keep most of the guys. I anticipate a few of the potential transfers (i.e. Cotton-Moya) just aren't likely to buy-in to the new staff since they were so entrenched emotionally with the prior staff.

LOL. 8 starters potentially leaving and you're saying that's a slight impact. I'll say this: If we lose more than 5 starters to transfer, we aren't making a bowl game. If they are the right ones, we will win 3 games again.

OP was asking about commits, not current players. Although looking at the rating s of a lot of Rhoads commits males me hope there is a lot of kids offers pulled.

But I really love the film on 2* Mike Smith, dude is a beast.

I'll give you multiple

1. He's from California
2. The coach he came to play for and was really close to was fired
3. He probably feels even with sitting out a year he will get more "exposure" at a better program (if he indeed goes to Cal)

California and Exposure were both issues when he originally decided to come here.

I understand that the coach he came to play for and was really close to was fired. But CPR is not going to be his coach wherever he decides to go. If Cotton-Moya is worried about "exposure" he would have to sit out his junior season at the FBS school he transferred to and would only have one year left. Going to an FCS school would mean less "exposure".

After seeing Matt Campbell and how he handled his press conference, plus seeing the reaction of players like Mike Warren and Lazzard and Peters buying in to the new coach and staff, I actually do not think we will see much attrition. Our players need to understand that CPR is not going to be a head coach at a FBS school this next year. So they would have to adjust to a new staff and a new school and completely new teammates. The pros of staying far outweigh the rash decision of leaving.

i agree but it just takes time. As much as some would like to believe that the entire team hated the entire coaching staff, I just don't think that's the case.

Even lazard and peters have looked shellshocked the last few interviews they've given. They were what I would describe as cautiously optimistic at the press conference. And Allen is basically just a cyclone.

I doubt many end up leaving in the end.

I said "good" reason. : )

Most our athletes are from other states. Coaches get fired all the time in football and the kids they brought in remain at the school. Players simply don't transfer in football like they do in basketball and when they do....it's usually to a lower level. I remember when Chizik left we had the same rumors. Leonard Johnson was going back to Florida. He didn't, pretty much every stayed and life went on.

He was Big 12 freshmen of the year on defense. People know about him. He doesn't need to go anywhere to get more exposure.

I'll just say this, I'll be shocked if any starters from a Big 12 program decide to transfer. They can be upset and talk like they might, but chances are slim that they actually do. Most don't even have a redshirt to burn.

It's not about CPR being their coach if they go elsewhere. It is about trusting and being comfortable with the coach. The thing that brought a lot of guys here over other schools was they trusted and felt more comfortable with CPR and or their position coach, now that those people are gone from their lives they probably feel they need to find that at other school.

I am not saying I want people to transfer because I don't. But I understand where they are coming from. I don't really think people understand how close these players were with CPR and his staff.

How or why is that interesting? They're working on recruiting. Another screen has GoogleMaps. Another looks to have Hudl up.

Agree here. Any recruiting service is going to be quite handy for them. Toledo staff has no familiarity with the recruits in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and Illinois most likely. A great place to start and find names would be 247, Scout, and Rivals. I'm sure they aren't on their looking at starzzz like we do. Probably part of Campbell's 4 hour radius strategy.

LJ didn't because CPR talked him off the ledge and made him feel comfortable with the new coaches. The new coaches only have about 2 weeks to get this done because once the guys go home for Xmas break with any reservations it may be hard to get them back.

They will.

I don't think any of us hated CPR and the coaching staff. I liked CPR. It was the results on the field and not getting wins that led to his firing.

Of course they are shell shocked. But firing a coach happens. IMO, a bigger shock would be losing a coach like Curtis Bray to a heart attack. Stan Eggen was brought in.....and the players seemed to like him. IMO, the decision has been made. And playing for CPR is not an option. So they have to decide to give these new coach and his staff a chance. And stay at the school they chose to play for and not have to uproot themselves. Or they can roll the dice and leave, and take a chance that the place they might end up they might not like at all. And have new teammates and new friends and a new school and new instructors and a new campus, etc.

They will.

They won't get all of them back this time. Chizik was a situation where there was a team that had been abandoned and when someone else came in and showed they cared, it was really something those players needed and appreciated. This is different. Completely different in terms of that dynamic.
