Concession Stands at Hilton

Take a step back and realize that you're ******** about a concession stand.

That really should trigger something.

They lost me years ago when they went cheap on the nachos - JP's legacy was cemented in my mind that day...

Half jimlad:)

I don't go to a lot of sports events outside of Iowa State, it is typical to have volunteers run the stands elsewhere? Seems the biggest problem is having all the inexperienced people that don't know how to kick it into higher gear and spend most of their time trying to count or find things. Wells Fargo always has lines 3x as long as Hilton and they move pretty darn fast in comparison.

You can buy beer in Wells Fargo.

I used to work at Giants stadium for a couple of years. Extra cash and a free ticket to the football games to yell hot dog and crackerjacks seemed like a not bad idea. For my job, it was 12 percent commission on all items sold plus tips which usually came out to over 100 a game. They don't allow beer sales in the stands in jersey, only at concessions. I talked to some guys who were beer guys for Yankees games and they usually cleared 1000 plus in sales at a similar commission rate plus tips. For people working the concession stands, it was run by a food vending company: they were paid 15 an hour plus tips.

Also, the same company I worked with who did the old Giants stadium also had contracts with kansas, Alabama, florida state, Texas, the rose bowl, Etc so I know they did colleges as well.

So to answer your question, no. Or at least no with pro teams and some major colleges.

All I know is the smell of boiled hot dog and nacho cheese still makes me want to vomit

Wells Fargo Arena does use volunteer groups too-I've volunteered with an organization there. They have a pretty good training program and a "supervisor" who oversees several concession windows, to troubleshoot any problems. For one concert our group made about $600. (and now that I see what they do with the leftovers, I never buy food there)

I have no problem with ISU concessions other than the price of water at football games.

Not too mention they always run out. or they don't have a "we are out of water" sign so you don't wait in line for 15 mins to find out they dont have any.
If I could sell a bottle of water for almost $5 each....I would make sure I have enough. Easy money.

Other than that I realize that a Pretzel and Pop will cost me $10 min.

Professional game: a pretzel cheese and beer would be $20.

That is also why people are buying 60inch HD Tvs for their basement for under $1000, Splitting a case of beer with their buddy with a bathroom near by and saying screw tickets these days.

I took my family of 5 to the UNI game and Spent $200 on tickets plus parking and gas. I think I got 7 bottles of water for like $30 plus some food.

Or I could have had a firepit and projected the game on my house in the back yard with a case of beer for like $20 plus so burgers and brats.

Sports has almost priced out the family. at a game....You are either a student, young couple with no kids or couple with kids out of the house. Or just have a lot of money.

I think basketball is more in line with charging versus football because they actually put out a product.

Or you have kids and you tell them no when they ask about getting food. I can understand the complaints about slow service but to ever be too upset about prices is kind of pointless when no one is forcing anyone to eat anything at the game.

I know that.....

My biggest complaint is $4.50 for a fricking bottle of water. I can buy a 24 bottles at Sams for that. its not just ISU. its everywhere.

I found out that I can actually take in my own water if its sealed? That would be nice.

Everyone should have to work at a job like this at some point in their life.
I worked at Subway on campus and can run circles around any food service worker I've ever come across. OK, that's hyperbole but I want to strangle 90% of these workers.

Just eat at Hickory Park or somewhere before the game. I do agree though. The concession stands take ages for you to get your food. At the exhibition game was in line 45 or so minutes before the game and still had to wait forever.

Eat and drink before you come?

Compared to the ones at Jack Trice, they're pretty fast. I'm always amazed how slow and inefficient they are. At least that season is over.

Many of us live and work out of town, so we may depend on eating at events. It seems like showing up a half hour early to park isn't almost an option really anymore either.
Problems with being a good team, so I'll take it.

WTH are you guys talking about. The only concession stands that matter are for clone-cones. And I think they do a good job!
I agree I only go for the clone comes but my one question about it is why do they have some many people standing around in clone cones. It's never slow but everytime I've gone they will have one person taking money, another doing the cones, and three standing around talking. Maybe send two of the talkers to the other concession stands to help out.

I have volunteered and run concessions at some USHL hockey games. There is literally 90 seconds of training, and it is only wrt the cash register, and you forget instantly and have to figure it out. All the other things that would make you faster - who does what, how to organize people, what to do first, second, last - you basically have to discover it as you go. And some people discover fast and others do not.

You can tell Clone Cone groups that have done it before, vs those that have not. Last night I think it was a lot of newbies. I wish they would either get more repeat concession volunteers, or at least have one experienced person per station to share the efficiency tips. Would make a huge difference.

Also, there's BBQ pork nachos?!?! Any good? Rate vs walking taco, please, since that is my standard.
