The fix is in...

I like how you keep bringing up all the OTHER plays.

*sigh* I admit there's an argument to be made they got the Ryen call right. I think there's an element of uncertainty there, though, and if there's uncertainty, you shouldn't overturn the call.

BUT - and this is why I keep bringing up other calls - the refs getting one call right that goes against ISU isn't something we should be celebrating. When will the benefit of a borderline call go in our favor? When that starts being more like a 50-50 proposition, then I can say, "Good job, replay refs."

Until then, screw 'em.

Replay officials should NEVER be noticed. When they review a call, if everybody clearly sees the call on the field was wrong, then it clearly should be overturned. If there's still questions in looking at the replay, the call should stand.

Sure, fans have bias, so that can be difficult. I'm not even talking about the Ryen call right now. Big XII replay refs have a terrible, richly deserved reputation for inserting themselves into games and making decisions to overturn calls on the field based on somewhat imaginary evidence. That's wrong, that's doing replay wrong, and the conference ought to do something about it.

Between the Epps catch and the TD overturn this was a damn joke. These refs are so calculating in their calls its nuts. It's like they know what they can get away with without causing national attention to the call. Just a joke.

Un-freaking believable. Absolute screw job by the refs tonight. No way that Ryen's catch was incomplete

Listen. The only things that I argued in this thread were...

a. The overturned TD, which was the correct call.
b. The fact that you said b1g refs reviewed plays the correct way because they took a "6 second" glance at it and if they couldn't tell, then they left it alone. The point of review is to get the call correct, no matter how many angles it takes.

That being said, I was very upset with a lot of the spots that we got, most notably Epps' catch at the end that was an obvious first down.

I haven't been home yet to see the play but that's not where I have the biggest problem. You keep saying the Big Ten refs don't do it right. That is stupid. The six seconds isn't the issue. The issue is if you can't tell it stands. There also is no need for it to take ten minutes. If you can't find the angle that clearly shows it within 2 minutes there isn't one. No one saying take one look at it and say I don't know. They're saying don't look at every angle forever.

This is the Big 12. They'll get a public reprimand.

lol...This is the Big 12, but it is undefeated OSU vs Iowa State...they won't even get a private reprimand...more than likely they will get champagne and caviar back at the hotel...OSU still undefeated is all that matters to the conference to be honest.

The spot on the Epps catch was terrible, the catch prior to that...watch where they spot the ball after the catch...etc etc etc...

Didn't watch this game but sounds very similar to the Texas game two years ago. Not only did we get jobbed by the non-fumble but the spots were CONSISTENTLY (usually the far side judge) ~1 yard in Texas favor. BIg $$$.

Lol. I don't "keep saying" anything about the big ten refs. I responded to his example that happened to be from a big ten game. Which, by the way, is a terrible example to compare to this. A goal line play has 1, maybe 2, angles to look at. In our case, you have to look at each angle UNTIL you see something conclusive.

In theory (I realize we are Iowa State), they would have called it a TD after 1 angle if it would have been a conclusive catch. Unfortunately, it was hard to tell, so they looked at more angles until they saw the ball hit the ground and he slightly bobbled it.

All I'm saying, is that the point of a review is to get the call correct. You have to look at as many angles as it takes in order to do that. We have gotten screwed on SO many calls, but this was not one of them.

Why there isn't an overhead system to see where the ball stops is beyond me. Refs clearly placing ball a few feet either side of progress. For such a technical game it's a crap shoot.

I also have to issue an apology. I did not watch the entire game, BUT booted up firstrow and turned off Walters just to see those 4 crap plays. I will take some responsibility.

How about the false start flag that came after they didn't get the first down? When is that not a dead ball flag? :realmad:

If you watch the replay you will notice 4-5 (maybe more) times where the refs spotted us a full yard short. I didn't see them do that once for OSU. Also, the play where OSU pushed the pile forward for another 5 yards. ISU would have had the play blown dead before the pile could move more. Don't believe me? Re-watch our last 3 games and you will see it. Refs blew a few plays dead before the ball carrier's forward motion was stopped.
