Coaching Prospects

Since we are not getting Texas talent, and we're not getting California talent, time to hire a coach who can get Iowan talent. A real Iowan. Born and raised next door close to Ames. Passion, family values, loyalty and hard work. And all those things you associate with Iowa.

We would be unstoppable if we could get someone like that.

Do you get the point of your own chart??

The purpose of that chart is stupid. Making an argument that there are more quality recruits in California than Texas is even more stupid.

He obviously used that charge to demonstrate there are more recruits in Texas than literally everywhere else.

Do you seriously think New Jersey is more of a recruiting hotbed than Georgia, Florida, California and Texas?

One point of this thread is that you can hunt New Jersey for recruits because there is less local competition. At no point do they every imply that there are more recruits in California.

Oh you think each school gets an even amount and recruits don't leave state? Ok now I understand your confusion.

So, you are arguing against the premise of the article you linked? Makes sense.

You think it is easier when there is more competition. Your article only takes into account the FBS school in the state. It doesn't account for those who play teams in that state. So in addition to the 12 FBS teams fighting for hometown recruits, you also have 4 more teams in the B12 plus the 13 more teams in the SEC. How many other P5 schools play California schools?

Look, at the end of the day, Leach has done the same or worse than Rhoads. There is no logical reason to think he would magically do better in Iowa.

Holgorsen already has a job.

More recruits available in comparison to schools seeking them. Yes, Texas has more raw numbers. But Texas has more competition for those kids. Therefore, it should be easier for WSU to recruit California than ISU to recruit Texas. We have more schools to content with. That was the point of the chart. Not my chart, not my article. He was the one who tried to use it to bolster his point that Leach would have an easier time here than there. Simply isn't true.

I don't understand the love for PJ Fleck. 1 winning season. Lost 43-17 to Georgia Southern last week.

PJ has one great attribute and that is he is one heck of a recruiter. And that's exactly what u need at ISU. We've lacked talent across the board for years. At this level u can hire a good OC and DC to coach the games. PJ is a recruiter and a darn good one. We've had successful assistants as HCs. What we've not had is a guy who is known as a stud recruiter. Talent wins more times than not.

Greg Schiano is another name I wouldn't be opposed to. He turned a perennial dumpster fire that was Rutgers into consistent post-season participant.

He has a hell of a lot more connections in Texas, how is that hard for you to grasp?

What about looking at Briles son at Baylor? He might know a few things about recruiting in Texas and offense. And i understand to make that system work, you also have to have the players.

We should fire Rhoads and get these two

While we are firing people we might as well replace John Walters with this guy :jimlad:

Good shout. I'd say high risk/high reward there which, bar a guy with a track record of turning around a dumpster fire at a P5 is the route I'd want to go. Shot in the dark, Hoiberg style. Nothing to lose. Absolutely nothing to lose and I hope more people start realizing that we're at the bottom right now. It's time to start picking ourselves up not stay in the gutter.

While I appreciate the risk..it's too great of one probably. Taking a big risk in football is far more damaging to an AD then bball. You screw up in bball and u can turn it back around in 2 years or even less..but football could be affected for 4-5 years. Costing a ton of $$

I get that, under normal circumstances, but you're obviously not hitting rock bottom yet. I already have.

Houston Nutt? He's available. Other than 2 bad seasons at Ole Miss he did alright for several years
