My wife (UNI alum) wishes to give fellow Ida Grove Native Trever Ryen props to his 81 yard return.

Thoughts on the Lazard/Ryen duo after tonight???

Well of course they were both great. Sage and Blum pretty much said the UNI punter was very bad though so not sure we can expect this type of performance again.

wow. was worried sticking Lazard back there but he was fabulous

on kickoff coverage-- I believe in 3rd qtr, we blasted 3-4 of their guys trying to block. Just blew them up

The way I see it, the more often we can get the ball in Lazard's hands, the better.

Trever Ryen has guts. On one of his punts there was one where just about anyone else would have fair caught. I don't recall him calling fair catch once.

UNI's Special teams is hot garbage. Ours looked good. Sure made a huge difference in the game. We were almost always in good field position.

Using Allan Lazard on punt returns reminded me of Johnny Majors when he first came. He deliberately put some starters on the punt and kick-off returns because that was the weakest point of our opponents and our best opportunity to score or at least improve field position. He also had a new gimmick play each week; some involving the special teams. It worked for us then and maybe it might work again.

I will say that I was extremely impressed with Allan's returns. He may have been faster than he looked but speed wasn't what impressed me. He seemed to see the whole field and did not run into his blockers while trying to follow behind them. Instead he neatly kept them in between him and the defense so the defense couldn't get to him; sometimes blocks were not even needed. Better punters may not give him the step or two he needs to get moving but, if they do, he is going to burn them many times.

He was hitting line drive punts all night and giving his coverage zero chance. It was only a matter of time before ISU took one to the house.

Yeah they looked like passes! Nervous having Lazaro back there but he did look good last night.

Once we face a punter with more hang time things will change.

His returns looked more like a running back who makes it through the line to the linebackers and secondary than the typical return man just making lightning fast straight line moves.

How badly were our two field goals missed? Could not tell from my seats.

I was watching the wind pattern during the game to see how the bowled in south end zone impacted things. Flags at the top of the stadium were showing a south wind direction while the small flags atop the south goal posts were showing a slight wind from the north. Swirling?

There was zero wind in the 10th row. The FGs weren't missed that badly, the second time they even fired the cannon. I thought they were both good live, but the replay showed otherwise.
