Yep, it's Deano. Dude you need to get over to the Recruiting Thread, DanTheMan is absolutely ruining the good name of Hok Trolls everywhere and that is not easy to do.

Over/Under on Iowa Wins minus ISU Wins? I will put it at 2.5

Isu is just not very good this year, and Iowa has won 2 of the last 3 at Ames.

How do you know they're not very good? Did I miss a few games already?

Also, you could also use the logic that ISU has won 3 of the last 4 vs Iowa, but that wouldn't make you feel as good about your hawks, would it?

Love Hawkeye Logic.

Well, thats kind of what happened last year, so....

The hits just keep on coming. Pure gold, right there.

Do Iowa fans congregate to rehearse that kind of logic?

The best part is we're talking about two bad football teams...and the Iowa fan narrative stays on par.

How am I wrong? Yes, we were a bad team last year, but you were worse. I dont know anyone who watched that game, Iowa and ISU fans alike, that didnt say that coaching (playing not to lose) had a massive, massive play in Iowa losing that game. Its the same reason that we lose to a MAC team every other year. Also, ill give you credit. You played well enough to win, and its not like it fell in your lap, but cmon. And dont get me wrong, Im not saying we're some 11 win team each year that shoots ourselves in the foot against crappy teams, but anyone looking at it with an objective eye can see my point.

And dont lump us together with the "two bad teams" thing. Different levels.

With you until here. Same level, welcome to the **** hole. Look at the results over the last 4 years. Same level bud, just because Iowa plays in a conference that affords them 2-3 more wins/year doesn't make them move up a level.

Hate to break it to you squawk but if Iowa played in the Big 12, I see them finishing 6th at the absolute best case scenario. ISU made Iowa look like they were wearing bricks on their feet last season. Can you imagine Iowa trying to keep pace with Baylor and TCU? That's not even bringing up Oklahoma and Texas caliber athletes. Get a clue.

Again, im not saying we are some world beaters, and yes, the B1G West is bad right now, but theres a big, big difference between 7-8 wins, and 2-3. Even if you were in the B1G, by your analysis, you would have won 4-5 games last year. Thats not 7-8 wins. And you can go look at any sort of ranking system out over the last however many years, and that will be reflected there as well. Again, to be clear, Iowa is not a good team right now, however, its not as bad as ISU. Even someone with rose colored glasses can see that.

Ok, point taken. Buts 6th place isnt 10th place. And Iowa has shown the ability to compete with some of those real good teams. Yes, we got taken to the shed last year against Tenn, but overall, when you look at the real good OOC teams Iowa has played in the last few years (usually in Bowl games), weve faired well. Thats the other side of the "coaching not to lose". It keeps us in the game, regardless of opponent. Getting taken to the shed are usually outliers when you are looking at L's by Iowa. I by no means think we would win the Big 12, but I have a hard time seeing us finishing last place each year.

Also, if by ISU making Iowa look like they were wearing bricks on their feet, you mean only winning by 3 pts, scoring 20 pts, and racking up a Baylor-like 330 yrds (55 more yards than Iowa), then sure.

The Iowa State strength of schedule thing is not true. Iowa actually plays a harder schedule on average. I would like to refer you to the "clown strength of schedule myth" thread in the Hawkeyenation rivalry forum.

I was speaking to your slow team. I said that was ABSOLUTE BEST CASE SCENARIO, meaning they would most likely fall in the last three spots of the conference. Either way, if your only complaint is to argue Iowa is a better program than Iowa State than I will laugh and agree with you.

There is a big difference between winning 3 of the last 4 and losing 3 of the last 4.

By my analysis ISU has 5-6 wins in the B1G. 7 big Iowa wins really dwarfs that.

Got ya. No prob. And thats not my only complaint, I just hear a lot of clone fans when they are talking, and they will say to people "yeah, were bad, just like Iowa" or "Iowa and ISU are both bad football teams" and different variations of that, and it bugs me a bit, mainly because their are two levels of bad in this instance. One of the bad teams wants their coach fired for winning 7 games with ridiculously easy schedules, the other team cant win more than 4 games, and loses to FCS teams. I know you beat us last year, however, it was just one game. There are differences there. And Im not puffing out my chest like we are some giant, but there are differences.

Hey, I see you live in Fort Collins. Random question- Are they going to build a new football stadium down town for CSU, or is that a rumor? I was in Fort Collins this summer for the first time, and your stadium in the mountains like that is beautiful. Be a shame if they moved it.

So let's say for argument's sake we put Iowa State and Iowa into each other's schedule and predict wins. \

Illinois State W W
Pittsburgh L L
North Texas W W
@Wisconsin L L
Illinois W W
@Northwestern L L
Maryland L W
@Indiana W W
Minnesota L L
Purdue W W
@Nebraska L L

UNI W W
@Toledo W W
Kansas W W
@TTU W W
TCU L L
@Baylor L L
Texas L W
@OU L L
Okey State L L
@Purple Kansas L L
@ West Virginia W W

We get the head to head, on merit of home field advantage and recent wins.

Iowa State 6-6 in Big 10
Iowa 6-6 in Big 10

Iowa State 6-6 Big 12
Iowa 6-6 Big 10

Now that is based on me trying to be slightly on the optimistic side of things for both teams right now. I'm sure you will argue a few of the games and say it pushes the teams another win apart, still doesn't put us very far apart.

I don't want to hear this entire hard schedule excuse. When Iowa has years when they face highly ranked teams they beat them, and they could do the same this year if they faced them. Let me give you some examples.

Ricky Stanzi 3 bowl wins, Iowa State total 2 bowl wins

Against top 15 teams:

2011 vs #13 Michigan
2010 vs #5 MSU, #14 Missouri
2009 vs #5 Penn State, #9 Georgia Tech
2008 vs #3 Penn State
2004 vs #9 Wisconsin, #12 LSU
2003 vs #9 Michigan
2002 vs #8 Michigan, #12 Penn State

1996 vs #10 Penn State
1991 vs #13 Illinois, #13 OSU
1990 vs #5 Illinois, #10 Michigan
1987 vs #11 Indiana
1985 vs #2 Michigan
1984 vs #14 Purdue
1983 vs #3 OSU
1981 vs #5 Michigan, #6 UCLA, #7 Nebraska

If Iowa can beat all of those teams, they can beat the teams ISU's schedule. These opponents only look hard to bad teams. They do not look as hard to good teams like Iowa that goes in with confidence and takes these teams down. You see Iowa State goes in expecting to lose so they do. Iowa goes in expecting to win. That is the difference between a winning team and a losing team. That is what Fry and Ferentz brought to Iowa.

They are building a new stadium on campus starting in the spring. The stadium in the foothills is a nice setting but falling apart and really doesn't have a great game day atmosphere. I am neutral on the whole thing. The area makes good decisions, they will make it work.
