Can I just comment quickly how terrifying it is to me the number of posters that thought it was perfectly understandable and acceptable that he literally tore apart a car while it was speeding down the highway? And not only that, but how many actually blamed the woman?

And some can't understand how rape culture in America is still pretty much stuck in the 1800s.....

Based on the very limited info we have I can totally understand her being afraid to stop in the middle of nowhere.

And the part of the thread that went "Have you ever had a crazy drunk violent person try to get out of a moving car you were driving". Why, yes I have, although the crazy person was a she.

Just trying to make it through the last days of summer . . . .

One thing we did this summer was plant a mint plant, we 've been making some pretty good mojitos. Almost out of rum, too.

In a container? I've heard that stuff can darn near be invasive. I've thought about planting it too, but that always makes me not. Well, that and I hate yard work, so there's that.

And got a call from little00 about his day. Typical 5 YO phone discussion, but it was good to hear him excited and not traumatized by his first day. Got to see his daycare buddies at recess, didn't have enough time to eat lunch (predictable, he's a real fiddle-farter and they only give them 15 mins to eat.)

Yeah, I bought the mint when plants were 50% off at the local greenhouse (they have a satellite site at the mall parking lot) and potted it in random pot we had in the garage. The dirt I used was not the greatest, either, but it has done fine. I may bring it inside over the winter and see how it does. Bonus--the rabbits have not eaten it.

Oh, and, the difference between men and women. Minon has a son who started at kirkwood, but lives at home because she lives like a half mile from there anyway. We get along pretty well, so we talk pretty openly. So, she's down there messing around on her phone and asks if I can print something for her, and I say sure, what do you need?
She starts rambling on about she can't figure out the bus schedule, and she starts showing me, and it's clear she's trying to figure out the bus schedule for her 18 YO son. I tell her that she should just tell him to handle his $***, and she's like "But I gotta figure this out, or else I'll have to drive him to school every day." and I said "no, you tell him he's 18, he's going to college, he can handle his own $***. I went to ISU when I was his same age, and I didn't live with my parents, so you know what, I had to handle my $***, he can handle his $***. I didn't call my mom and ask her to figure out my bus schedule, or drive me to school as an 18 year old man...I handled my own $***. Tell him to handle his $***." She says she can't, so I ask if she wants me to call him and tell him to handle his $***, because I can.

Hmmm... Invasive enough to overtake a Poison Ivy farm on the other side of my fence???

Oh, bother...here come the 'NASCAR isn't a sport' arguments.

So, kind of ironic with me ranting about the 18 YO kid figuring out the bus on his own, but it's a little different for a 5 YO. Little00 rides the bus, but it's a little more complicated because on days Mrs00 works, he goes to his old daycare for BASP, and on the days she's home, he comes home. Mrs00 is all worried about it, but I'm like...the daycare stop is before our house stop, and they know when he's supposed to be there...if he gets off when he shouldn't, they'll call you or put him back on...if he doesn't get off when he needs to, they'll call the school and get him back there. But, she's still nervous, so super awesome dad (that's me, ladies) made some hang tags with carabiner clips and laminated pictures (a cartoon house, and one that matches his daycare). We'll just hang the right one on his backpack every day, and if anyone is unsure...Boom!

I think it's more of a generational thing there than a gender thing.

Little00 needs to learn to handle his ****.
