New neighbors moved in yesterday. What's your opinion on bringing over a bottle of wine or a six pack as a welcome to the neighborhood gift? I have this nagging fear of doing this and then finding out that they are alcoholics or they had a family member killed by a drunk driver or something to make me feel like an ***.

We received chocolate chip cookies and cranberry scones between two different neighbors. Hard to go wrong with food.

A bottle of wine is a nice gesture. There aren't many people out there that would be offended by it. Besides, going through the moving process, they could probably use it. It also is a way to find out quickly if you can share a drink with them later on.

Unless they are complete ***es the worst that can happen is they would politely decline it. If they are compete ***es, you will quickly know to stay away from them.

This is just my opinion which really shouldn't count for much.

Let's face it, there is no foolproof answers because fools are so damned ingenious.

There is a lot of green between promoting gun safety and prosecuting someone who makes a mistake in securing a firearm with first degree murder.

'Nuff said.

You're right. We probably shouldn't talk about this here.

There is...and it's called negligent homicide...which is likely what a person in that situation would be charged with. More than a slap on the wrist, but less than if the person did it themselves.

Not to keep it going, but a lot of times, I find that people react with emotion in situations like this with "we need a law about...." when there already is.

Or you're 00 bringing pork fat to a pescatarian.

I'd consider that an intervention for your own good.

Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker...

Food is the safest option, but there has been a good point made - if you take some form of booze you will know immediately if your neighbors are members of a temperance movement.

Send CG over with rum. :)

I don't know if sending Rum Brooklyn over is going to do them any favors in making friends with the neighbors.

If only I knew of someone that was capable of gathering intel on the neighbors ahead of time to avoid any social faux pas. Someone that could spy on them from a secluded and remote area outside of their premises.
