Speaking of travel and meals...when I was a co-op at a different company, we had to go to the headquarters of the company in chicago for training. 4 of us went...me (ISU junior), a recent grad of UI-Champaign-Urbana, an older (mid 40's) guy with 2 year drafting degree, but worked at a small company doing engineering work, so he qualified as an engineer at our company, and a college aged girl..don't remember her story. Was suggested, for simplicity, if we were eating together, get one bill, then note that in the expense report.

So first night, older guy pays, making a 'show' of it as if he were actually buying us young pups dinner  even though I knew he was a broke*** because of a divorce. It was a steak place, and UIC guy orders a steak, and the waitress asks how he wants it cooked...he looks at her like she's got a 3rd eye and says 'uhh, however you normally do?" We intervene so the waitress, who was looking uncomfortable telling this guy he is dumb (we didn't mind), and we get thru the meal with him explaining he usually orders like chicken fried steak or something.

The nights where I and the other girl payed went fairly smoothly, then the last night, it's UIC guy's night to pay. Gets the bill, and he's looking it over, looking it over, looking it over...finally says "how much do you tip at a place like this? It's like a normal, casual restaurant, but not a chain.

So this guy got thru college without ever ordering a steak at a restaurant, or eating at a place that had tips.

There is a dude here that is 30, with 3 Masters and has never been to a city bigger than Tuscaloosa Alabama (can you guess which school he went to? :jimlad:). Anyway, we went out to the bars in Dallas and he went home alone. He didn't have any cash for the cab (first time riding in one mind you) so the cab driver swindled him out of his phone for payment.

00's story somehow reminds me of Angels in The Outfield, when the kids are trying to get rid of their handler and they tell him to get them coffee. Then he asks them how they take it, and the Joseph Gordon-Levitt kid comes up with "in cups."

Work said today we aren't going to NYC for a 4 day conference which sucks. They did say we may make a trip to the UK to go visit one of my customers so that would be neat

Before the banking and loan regulations strictened, my last company bought out a chain in London and were in discussions of opening in Montreal as well. I was one of the ones on the short list to potentially go to either, panic happened with the new regulations and this were put on the back burner. Sucks, because either one would have been an awesome experience.

I just had a great idea! What if there were a service where breweries and pubs could buy excess hops from other breweries who ordered large quantities from sellers that they don't use? You could call it a "co-hop".

Fun fact: Hop varieties that see a quick, but short lived surge in popularity are known as hip hops.

When we were last in hawaii we had heard that they were planting the last of their pineapple crops. Guess we got wrong information.

Well, most Dole pineapples that you buy are from Costa Rica. The ones grown in Hawaii are pretty much just for the touristy Dole Plantation to use. But there's also Maui Gold pineapples, which are good as well (and which sell my baby pineapples.)

Everyone I work with is gonna gain so much weight. They've been going to to dinner and getting two meals and just eating everything in sight. It's like most people's first corporate card and I guess they just wanna go hog wild. I went down to the grocery store and have been cooking, then joining them out at the bars after. They are gonna get burned out IMO.

Also I wonder when it will get through that just because we have $X to spend on the day on food doesn't mean your goal is to try and get as close as humanly possible every day. They literally told us in our training that doing that will not be looked upon well by managers at the quarterly reviews.

They are all really nice people but some of them need to understand that this is real life now and you can only ask for forgiveness so many times. It's not like you can have a redo like you could when you failed a class... slow down. /end rant

Where is that tasty looking beer sampler from? It looks like a nice variety and really good after working outside all day.
