Just 5 years ago Fred started out at $900k a year. And that was Fred Hoiberg. But I do mostly agree with u. If it is TJ it will prob be in the 1.1-1.4 mil range.
Can you tell us the one who is no longer considered?
Also, why are we passing up the opportunity to make a huge hire just because of the money? Like you've said before, this isn't the 90's anymore. Spend money to make money!
So that means you can now tell us who one of the candidates was right? You weren't spilling the beans because it would hurt our odds, well one guy is eliminated. Spill the beans!

i hate the idea of tj getting the job. I hate the propaganda machine in place for him. I will be unhappy when he is named the coach.
But I am sure that part of the reason why he didn't get an interview was that drake had just fired the hotshot recruiter head coach who had failed. He would have been more likely had drake just fired a former low major head coach.
Of course, mark phelps is an example of someone with a similar background as tj failing.
Right. But tons have changed with coaches salaries in the last 5 years.
Iowa paid McCaffery $1.5 mil per from Siena. If we hired Underwood or similar, I'd be $1.75 per would be the amount. I could see TJ around $1.1-$1.2.
Oh yes, I remember CF thinking we had some Brewster pipeline. Smith is "tight" with a lot of coaches.
Spending money just to spend money is not wise. You start talking $3 million plus then the guy better have won a National Championship or been damn close to it IMO. You do not pay someone like Bryce Drew $3.5 to $4 million per season. That is excessive IMO. If he doesn't work out then you have totally screwed our athletic department. The verdict is not given on other issues we have going forward in other sports and we need to use our head and consider all possibilities.
Yeah in the coaching world 900k 5 years ago is probably equal to about 1.3m today.

On paper you are right Underwood is the slam dunk hire. He checks all the boxes with a proven record, very good resume (people forget that usfa would have received an at large bid even if they had not won their conference Tourney they were a top 35 school), long record of success as an assistant and recruiting at a similar p5 school in our geographic area, great X's and O's coach. He is going to be a great coach somewhere. The two big question marks are his demeanor (will that hurt the chemistry of to next years team) and will he bolt for ksu when webber gets hired. Both of these put a chink in his attractiveness to us. Both his old boss and fellow alum left ksu so am not sure how loyal he would really be should he have success (to ksu that is). Hence if we get a not leaving for ksu assurance in his contract with a reasonable buyout and Pollard trusts him I say roll the dice. If not probably not worth the risk for next year's team and the possibility he leaves.

I agree, if we open up and give some coach upwards of $3M/yr it better be a 'slam dunk' kind of hire. I can't say who would fit that bill for me but just saying.
If it's TJ I am sure we still end up paying him in the neighborhood of $1M+ just because I think Iowa State should be paying that much for our coach.
If he is successful, it will rapidly increase. That goes for all the candidates.
