COLUMN: One last look at the candidates

The downside that you listed for Underwood is the least significant of all the candidates. Recruiting might be a question mark here but I'm surprised more people don't want him here...oh well, to each their own.

Are the players listed as being recruited by Otz all the players he recruited or the highlights?

Cause if it's all he not only landed those guys but really didn't miss.

I think he's a great candidate, however, I disagree that his downside is the least significant. Someone that is polar opposite of Hoiberg personality wise could be a big problem for these guys that have been together for a long time. Wasting the best roster in the history of ISU would be a travesty. It would also diminish the new coaches expected boost in recruiting and momentum after a potential great/historic season.

A few things..

-It is left out of this how Drew, Prohm, and Underwood have all won multiple conference championships, and have proven they can get the most out of teams.

-How in the world is Bryce Drew "only" going 49-17 in conference a negative? That is just searching to try and find negatives there..he has 3 conference titles in 4 years, and one 9-7 year. That's the weakest negative ever, and comments like that are why there are people that feel like they 'being pushed' or 'sold' on TJ. Same with the 'only 1 NCAA tourney' appearance for Prohm. He's won at least his division of his conference every single year at Murray State, but you have to win that conference tournament to make the tourney.

-CW's argument on getting a recruiter being more important than getting a coach I strongly disagree with for 2 reasons.

1. If TJ is such a great recruiter, and that's more important than being a great coach...why have only 2 of the 9 teams he's been a part of won at all?

2. Every single coach dating back to Orr has been able to recruit to Iowa State. Why wouldn't Prohm, Underwood, and Drew be able to do the same? When we have gotten in trouble was when we had poor coaching.

He also got Malik Dime out of Indian Hills to go to Washington - Fred should never lose a guy he wanted from there - but he did. Fred even went to Ottumwa the night before the announcement but Dime picked TJ so the guy does have some recruiting charm.

Well, he lost 17 games against low major competition for one.

I hope we hear from Jeremy soon.

Me too. He was sounding like it wouldn't be TJ, if I'm reading him right. Such a big decision and we have to be able to recruit.

Fred Hoiberg

Damn you Roger!... Damn you!!!

Agree. That whole article felt like a thinly veiled campaign to sell TJ.
