They all had good reasons to leave.

And none of them have been to the tourney with their new teams.

A P5 school hiring a coach from another P5 school just doesn't happen, unless they've been fired first or have other reasons to leave.

The fact that there's even a current successful P5 coach being rumored to maybe be interested is something.

I have to admit, I'm warming to the idea of Prohm. Only if we can keep TJ on board though.

Anyone in the know have any idea of where TJ would be at as far as being an assistant to a guy coaching at the level of a Prohm? I would think he would not like this too much, but curious? Maybe sticks it out this year due to lack of options, but I would think his desire to be a head coach would lead him to be on the look from the start, knowing the new hire was going to be here a while. Not ideal for your lead recruiter.

I'll add I don't think this is an issue, as I believe TJ is our next coach.

Edit: asked this question as I was following the flow of the thread. Didn't see that all of the "in the know" people (Stormin) had addressed this many times over.

Multiple people talking about it being bad to move to Ames, Iowa? Isn't Prohm currently living in Murray, Kentucky?!? Compared to Murray, KY Ames is a bustling metropolis. Is the whole state of Kentucky delusional? I thought it was just Kentucky fans that were scholastically challenged?

Well, they do have shirtless hillbillies with great-looking tooth making moonshine in the woods around there, so they do have that on us.

I asked this in yesterdays thread: Jeremy said (and I'm paraphrasing) that he thought TJ would stay for at least 1 year regardless of who was hired, but of course that's less likely the less accomplished the hire is.

Murray State would be open.

Bottom line, the guy who gets hired needs to be a guy we can trust the way we trusted Fred.

I trust Dana just doesn't roll off the tongue.

I trust Steve, that seems to be a little better.

I trust Brad. That's decent.

I trust TJ. I could warm up to that.

Thoughts?

We thought we needed a SEZ. Murray State needs a SEZ, NEZ, and ESL.

Let me Prohm coach?

Stormin's arguement is what pisses me off about the ordeal. "well he'll leave if he isn't hired." Then leave.

He was either promised the head coaching gig (which leaves a sour taste in my mouth), OR he was hired as an assistant so he should be happy as an assistant.

From all reports Otz wasn't promised the head coaching gig (per CW and Jeremy). TJ took the job to be an assistant under Fred Hoiberg to either be in position to be ISU HC when Fred left (~3yrs) gain more experience to get a HC gig and finally live in Ames. Situations change and thus Otz and has no idea what type of relationship his new boss and him will have or if they would even want him on the staff. To just say be happy and go to work is an oversimplification, especially if TJ or the team, thinks Otz is as or more qualified to be the HC than who they hire.

Secondary concern TJ leaving after next year may be worse for recruiting long term. OTZ being forced to stay a year building recruiting relationships and leaving could end up like Matt A situation where they eliminate ISU late, de-commit and follow him to his next stop except this time ISU won't have a preseason top 10 roster returning.

I think there is a bit of a stretch to connect TJ to the Hoiberg coaching tree. He is a part of it, but he was there during a transition year, and then one real year of Hoiball. Does anyone remember Hoiberg's first year? He didn't have a lot to work with and was still perfecting the art of coaching. Funny enough, I think TJ would be a stronger candidate if he didn't go to Washington.

His UW days added very little imo. Recruiting the west doesn't help him at ISU, nor does refusing to go after UW transfers.

So with Pollard's M.O. for previous coaching searches it seems that when names are leaked that none of those people end up being the guy. Now with Prohm, Underwood, and Drew being mentioned for interviews this weekend, does that mean that those guys are just smoke screens for the real hire?
