Coaching Search

Whoever we get is not likely to live up to fan expectations. Fans are spouting out final four or bust. If a new coach gets this team in the tournament and loses the first game or the second, will fans ridicule him as a coach? If we end up in 3rd place at the end of the conference season, will he be considered a failure?

While our roster is a great incentive for a new coach, will fan expectations for this team be a deterrent?

If I find out that JP didn't put in the call to Coach K, Izzo, and Pop I'm stopping my donations to ISU AD.

Then how does JP pay the bailout of the football coach you want fired and the money to pay his replacement you desire..........Nick Saban or Urban Meyer, I assume.

If JP doesn't put the full court press on Bill Bilechek I'm pulling my donations and canceling season tickets.

I don't want any "lumps" learning with the best team in ISU history.

Unless we hire Coach K, or Fred changes his mind at the last minute, you are going to get some lumps. We may have less "lumps" with TJ than with a new guy too if he keeps the style of play the same.

Whoever we hire, I can't wait for the meltdown after we lose the first game we "shouldn't".

My 2 cents

I'm not worried who is coach this upcoming year, the talent on this team is enough to do very well. Since most of them are upper class men, what's most important are the years after that.

That's why TJ isn't a great fit for me (among other things). He seems like the best guy to coach us this upcoming year, but probably not so much the years after that. Hire JH if you can JP.

Otzelberger might be the best choice long term because he is a proven recruiter. Our recruiting the last couple years has not been all that great since Otzelberger left.

Otzelberger brought in a Top 10 class for Washington this past year with Romar as coach. The guy can recruit. Hornacek has never recruited and has expressed sentiments that recruiting may be an aspect of being a college coach he does not like.

Your concerns are actually the opposite of most here.

Kansas and Oklahoma are going to be VERY good as well next year. Kansas will probably be better than they were this past season. Odds were against us winning the Big 12 this year even with Hoiberg.

Thought you already did that when CPR was retained for the coming year. Or are you another who made threats and then did not back them up?

No Bellicheat......he would get the death penalty for football with his blatant cheating and disregard for the rules.

I don't know another AD that has survived 3 basketball coaching hires and 3 football coaching hires.

Interesting that some think the team will have less transitional lumps with TJ as Head Coach. If you are not concerned with the coming year and feel TJ would do a very good job, then that would essentially remove one of the biggest concerns with his hire. The guy can recruit. It is apparent we missed him these last 2 years on the recruiting trail.

Forget football. Even if we suck. Keep the coach and use the money to pay a basketball coach. We are a basketball school.

You also don't know an AD who has done more for ISU athletics as a whole than JP.
He can build buildings that's for sure. Jamie has been huge for this university, but he has still bombed on almost every coaching hire he has had.

He didn't recruit all those guys. A few of them were instate so not really a shocker they picked Washington. Also Washington has gotten good recruits for a while now under Romar.

Otz is a solid recruiter but it's not like he has brought in top classes to ISU.

Who did we recruit to come to ISU while Otz was gone?

I mentioned his name in an earlier thread, but one coach i really like is Kenny Atkinson who is currently an asst coach with the Atl Hawks. He worked under Mike DAntoni who obviously teaches fast paced play. He is also known as a developmental coach and obviously has ties to the NBA which is important for recruiting and has been an NBA scout. I know his name is not getting mentioned anywhere, but hey that is how Jamie has worked int he past.
