I would agree. I guess the question is does that really hurt him in any practical way?
Watching his presser at the airport, he just seems so cold to things. The way this has gone down has tarnished his reputation and he is VERY conscious about his image. Why now?
With all of the NBA interviews, he appeared determined to leave this year. Wonder if there was something with his health/heart? Maybe he needed a quick cash grab? Maybe the way this season unfolded, he found that he cared too much about coaching ISU - it was too hard on him and his heart, that every loss was 100x worse because it was his dream job? Maybe he needed to coach somewhere it wasn't personal and just a job?
Something is up. We may never know for sure but I just can't believe Fred would pursue this so strongly, knowing he would no longer be ISU's golden boy.

I hope Fred goes to see the new Jurassic Park and is really pumped about it, but accidentally eats too much popcorn and candy and falls asleep during the best part and misses it. Then he'll be out $15 and will have to pay to watch it again or wait for it to come out on Redbox.

Of course it doesn't. It only hurts public opinion within our fanbase, which doesn't amount to anything.
A simple answer would be that being ISU's golden boy wasn't on the top (or perhaps even near the top) of his priority list. As mentioned above, he didn't seem to care much about how the PR went, or what perception of him the PR gave to ISU fans.

I would disagree with this, and I'm not one of those who puts Fred on the high pedestal like so many on here do. Hoiberg is such a humble, unassuming person, he has no idea how he "comes across," and does not think about his "image." I've reffed every year at his camps, talked with him at Gilbert events, and seen him out in public where he's approached constantly by fans. He's always the same: respectful, humble, and never brushes anyone off.
I don't like how this has played out, but if Fred thinks about his "image" at all, it's that he wants everyone to see that he's not better than anyone else.

I guess I find the whole process the part that upsets me as a fan. I can understand the fact that he wants to coach in the NBA and his health may of pushed that sooner than he thought. But then why do you state that you "hope to finish your career here" when you know that's not your goal at all. I just feel like he is like every other coach.

He has said over and over that winning is a relief and losing is complete agony. He has a lot of pressure on him to keep this thing going. Every time he loses, he feels like he is letting us down. I've heard him say that in post-game comments with Walters. Maybe he was too emotionally invested. Maybe he just wanted to be somewhere where he wasn't the Mayor and all that came along with it because he found out it was too much. He couldn't go anywhere in Ames without having to talk about the wins or losses. I saw him at Aunt Maud's after the Texas away game this year and a bunch of people stopped to talk about the game.
I don't know. Just seems like there must be some reason why he was so determined to go to the NBA this year.
I would guess caring what fans think of him is, rightfully, pretty low on his list. Fans just like him because he's winning, if he was working just as hard but going 18-15 with an NIT berth a few years in a row, he wouldn't be the golden boy any longer.
