Hoiberg Watch 2015: Friday, May 29 Thread

Sounds like the Bulls fired their second most successful coach in their history because Thibs wouldn't kiss the collective GarPax behinds. CFH is probably already puckered up and bent over.

Thibs, since they have had such a boner for Hoiberg the last several years they have been trashing you, why not see if you can come here and take this team to Final Four glory?

I just want this to be over with. I don't care who they bring in. I'll trust the hire JP makes. The only thing I care about is winning the national championship next year.

I have no hard feelings towards Coach Hoiberg. Without him we wouldn't be a potential top 5 program going into next year and we wouldn't be in the national championship conversation.

I will also accept him back with open arms in a few years when the Chicago job backfires on him. I think he is making the wrong choice should he choose to leave for the Bulls (the Timberwolves job makes much more sense) but I'm not going to blame him for it.

Good luck Coach Hoiberg. You will always be a Cyclone!

P.S. I'll scream like a giddy school girl if he surprises everyone and comes back to ISU for at least 1 more year.

How is the team handling the situation? Obviously it has to be a huge weight on them.

I talked to Georges Niang and Matt Thomas last week -- before they were advised not to talk to reporters. They're handling it very well. They're even-headed guys. They know the situation. They know their team is loaded next season, regardless who coaches them.

I was on a flight with Pollard from Dallas to DSM last night. The man looked stressed, and I honestly feel bad for him. Every 3rd person asked him about Hoiberg, and you could tell it was wearing on him. I had the opportunity to talk with him, and we chatted about everything but basketball. He did have some great things to say about how the SEZ is coming together, and really perked up when we talked about it.

Sorry for no Fred news, but he seemed like a man who knew what was coming.
I know he was at the Big 12 AD's meeting but can we begin the Rick Carlisle rumors and build upon the Larry Brown rumors.

Very interesting... well maybe it'd be more possible than I thought.

Very interesting comments. He certainly left the door open for coming to ISU. If I were Jamie, I would pull out all of the stops and get Jeff here. Get the big bucks donors to pony up $2 million to give to Jeff just as a signing bonus and then $3 mill + a year afterwards. I would do whatever it takes.

Now I feel really sorry for Matt and Georges, all this drama and they were subjected to Randy Pete.

Ok Fred. Keep telling yourself that.
There is plenty for a coach to build on and there are plenty of pieces of this team that are here for the next 2 years yet. If the next coach fails, you can't say they were put in a bad situation and not given a chance because that would be far from true.

Does anybody honestly think the Bulls as currently constructed can beat LeBrone James in a playoff series?

I think the Bulls have maxed out their success as the roster sits today. Rose is always hurt and Noah is worthless on offense so having Tibbs be a defense fisrt guy is IMO why the Bulls won as much as they did.

Start playing Hoiberg ball and Noah isn't going to be nearly as effective. Going from a hard nose coach to a more calm coach when the roster isn't dripping with offensive talent is not a smart move.

Hoiberg will last two years and after that the Bulls front office and Hoiberg will be tossed. The only way this doesn't happen is if the Bulls sign some absolute Free Agent stud like Kevin Durant.

Honestly the T-Wolves is a much better job if you are talking about possible longevity in the position.

Which is why they were able to talk to Randy.

Getting progressively more drunk.
Getting progressively more depressed.
Just about time to go dust off the ol' guitar and play a little something. Maybe Wonderwall.

If you’re going with Oasis, man, play “Morning Glory.â€￾

Ultimate Gallagher nonsense lyrics seem to fit this situation: “Tomorrow never knows what it doesn’t know too soon.â€￾

I would be pretty happy if you told me I would be able to coach D-Rose, Pau Gasol and Jimmy Butler. That's some good offensive talent. Plus, since Thibs is gone, maybe he'll put some additional 3 pt shooters on the floor (McDermott). Mirotic and Duvleavy are options to stretch the floor as well. The Bulls have the capability of scoring more points but Thibs's offensive mind was horrible and had them run the same tired sets all the time and still ran Hinrich out there when he should have been playing younger players.
