Fred Hoiberg 67.3%, one sweet 16, two second round and one first round NCAA appearances (5 seasons)
Tim Floyd 63.3%, one sweet 16, two second round NCAA appearances (4 seasons)
Larry Eustachy 63.1%, one elite 8, one first round NCAA appearance (5 seasons)
Wayne Morgan 58.5%, one NCAA second round, one NIT semifinal appearance (3 seasons)
Johnny Orr 52.2%, one sweet 16, one NCAA second round, four NCAA first round appearances (14 seasons)

It would seem that Fred Hoiberg has clearly been the most successful coach in ISU history. Especially when you consider that if he stays/would have stayed he would have a very high probability of making a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

True, but Fred's accomplishments should have blown everyone else out of the water instead of being MAYBE a little bit better.

And you don't get credit for what the team does after you leave.
 
I think he will coach the bulls for 2-3 years, realize the NBA and the bulls front office is horrible, and come back to Iowa State
 
You know what is great about about Pandy/Randy Reterson/Peterson? The Avi of both is the same, but you wouldn't think a journalist would use that as his real avi. #DietCoke4Lyfe

All one has to do is consider Larry's/Tim's starting point with the team versus Fred's starting point with the team. What he has done is remarkable, and it is extremely sad to lose him.

Once you're an nba coach you usually stay there. If he gets fired form the Bulls he'll just go coach another nba team. The only way he won't is if he fails miserably with the Bulls. And if that happens, who know he may come back to coaching at ISU. There is literally only one way Fred can ever be dead to me, and that's if he come back to coach college basketball for a non-ISU school.

Fred will be with Bulls for 2-4 years and then either get fired, retire or go to being a GM. He won't ever come back to coaching another college team. How can you possibly be the Mayor of Ames coaching Purdue.
 
How about this...

1. Fred leaves to the NBA
2. We hire Jeff H.
3. Two-3 years after a final four/national championship Gar Foreman wants another ISU coach in Jeff H. and fire Fred
4. Bulls then fire Fred and hire Jeff H.
5. Fred then returns to continue what he started and commits for good


We can all dream
