I know some love the Pollard go out get a quick hire and do it myself method. The problem is it has worked for him once in 4 major hires. Maybe he should take some time and get some other input before making his decision this time. At times it is like he is more worried about the media finding out who he is after that finding the right coach.

I'd be willing to bet my crappy 401 K that Jamie has been working on this for at least a week, maybe two. He's always 10 steps ahead of everyone else. My prediction is that he'll have his man in 2-3 days after Fred leaves (if that happens).

I will always hold the Wesley Johnson situation against McDermott.

I never have an inside source for anything, but I can confirm McD was a huge **** about that situation.

Basically didn't believe him when he told him how much his foot hurt and actually made him run extra for whining/as punishment.

He got a 2nd opinion and when the swelling went down they found a hairline fracture.

I agree with that, but the going at it alone thing worries me a bit.

While you are here Chris what are you salary numbers you are hearing ISU is willing to pay Fred or a new coach.

Very encouraging news if true. Last thing we need is a bunch of fans depressed 3 weeks after Fred leaves complaining that this program will never be the same. Anxious times!

He at least tries to appeal the fanbase. I don't blame him for McDermott as I think he was the hot ticket that year. Chizik wasn't a bad coach, just left early. CPR is a great motivator and coach and unfortunately he just has to coach a non-football school. i give him 3/4.

I hope Fred stays, but only if he makes a long-term commitment. My heart says he might still do that. My brain has taken control of my heart and I don't think it will happen.

So I have moved on to possible coaching replacements. My preferences of those that I think we can actually land are:

1. Hornacek
2. Larry Brown
3. Archie Miller
4. T.J.

With the first three, I hope that T.J. is retained.

I think it all depends on who is interested.

Here's my deal: I know Jamie. He's a financial guru. My guess is that he will go with a young up-and-comer and pay around 1.0 to 1.2 mil to start.

BUT, if he can get a guy like a Hornacek or anybody with any experience at all, I really think he'd have to go 2.5 or more. Or, do what he does often and ofter a bunch of years instead of the high salary, which is always risky too. Problem then is that you're paying the new guy more than Fred. That doesn't make any sense.

Right now, I just don't see a ton of proven guys lining up to be the guy tasked with the chore of replacing Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State.

Think Bryce Drew. Steve Prohme. Brad Underwood. Otzelberger. That'd be my guess.

Having said that, I have no clue what Jamie Pollard has up his sleeve. People rarely do.

Archie Miller turned down 3 million a year at Florida. I'll be you my left testicle that he doesn't end up at Iowa State.

If Fred leaves, ISU's program will never be the same, and I'll be depressed for at least three weeks.

Larry Brown would be a GREAT choice! He and Iverson did some real damage together, would love to see what him and Morris can do!

He is the trendy name by fans right now, but not as popular by insiders and donors that have dealt with him over the years. He really rubs people the wrong way at times so he may have less support than one would assume.

He would be a great candidate, but he has some baggage like any candidate.

Hot wife so that counts for something same w/the Dayton coach if I remember from another thread a few days ago.

I don't know who you've been reading but I've certainly never alluded to that. Not even in the slightest. We knew this would be a process with the Bulls/Thibs situation. This was never going to be a quick deal.

You didn't but a couple of posters who had "inside sources" were throwing **** on the wall to see if it would stick. Thanks for these daily summaries CW.

Are you saying you would be his left testicle? Or you will have him be your left testicle? How would that work?

:jimlad:

PS why do.people only bet left nuts? iseveryone right balled around here? My left nut is my bigger "dominant nut"
If I bet one it will be my right ;)

Larry Brown had an illustrious coaching career, and has had great success. I am just afraid that his ship has sailed, and don't think it would be a good hire. So many names being bandied about, what about Ron Hunter from Georgia State? I know he just received an extension through 2019-20 but he is just making under a mil a season. We could through more dough at him..

Why haven’t the Bulls fired him yet? Multiple reports state that it’s nothing but pettiness in trying to keep him out of the NBA next year (which I find repulsive and can’t understand why Fred would want to work for these people).

This ^^^^...I can understand being friends with people who are cut-throat, and I can understand doing business in a cut-throat industry, but I can't understand getting into a cut-throat business with friends. It's bound to go badly.
