My MBB short list for coaches.

If jay bilas would take the job that would be an awesome hire. One of the brightest minds in college basketball. And it would definitely make a splash

I've always wondered if his wife wanted to be back in a big city. Spending your entire marriage in Indianopolis, Chicago, and Minneapolis and then moving to Ames is probably quite the culture shock.
She went to Iowa State too...

I think a lot of you are assuming ISU will pay a new incoming coach a decent to big salary. I'm fairly confident that ISU will not be busting open the check book for a new coach.

To the person suggesting Jay Bilas, I don't think we could pay him more than what he is making at ESPN.

I would hope we would match what we are paying Hoiberg for the right guy. But honestly, he is slightly underpaid here. On the open market he could earn quite a bit more in CBB.

But if we hire TJ then there is no reason to go over $700k.

He had an awful first year with Floyd's players...the year after when he brought in Horton and Tinsley we won the Big 12...the year after that when all we had left from Floyd was Rancik and Shirley, we won the Big 12...

Youre forgetting Fizer in that mix his first year they won it and Rancik, Shirley and Nurse all played rather large roles in the situation as well. Outside of Tinsley and Horton he had Sullivan and Power....Power left because he couldnt deal with Larry too.

I wanna make it clear that I am not on the 'bring back Larry' bandwagon...just wanted to point out that we didn't succeed under Larry until he brought in his guys to compliment Floyd's guys. His first year with just Tim's players we sucked.

Also, Shirley and Rancik were the only Floyd players remaining on our second Big 12 title team that played any sort of key role. Larry took a lot of risks on players in recruiting and a lot of them backfired, but he didn't just win with Tim's players.

Regardless im just not sold on Larry what so ever. It was a combonation of what we both are saying in my opinion and when all Floyds players were gone it was over with quickly for the program at that point for many reasons.

hornecek would be the only one that would save it from turning into a **** show.

For some reason, id check with jay wright.

Really? Jeff Hornacek is the only coach in the world who could take over and prevent the program from going down the crapper? So melodramatic and so false.

Well, honestly, I doubt anyone could have the impact that Hoiberg could have. But whatever.

Not a big TJ fan. As HC at ISU he'd probably leave if the University of Washington HC position opened up.

That isn't the debate, though. You said, "hornecek (sic) would be the only one that would save it from turning into a **** show." Obviously to expect the next hire (whenever it comes) to have the same impact as Fred is ludicrous, but writing off any other potential candidates besides Hornacek before the names even surface is equally as ludicrous.

right but it is clear they don't like the Ames engineering company as much as NASA.

Its fine no need to pretend he really likes coaching at Iowa state. If he did, he wouldn't leave. H

Wow, your posts actually got worse as the thread went on. As if it isn't an incomprehensibly difficult decision for Fred; he loves ISU, that's never been in doubt. It's quite possible to "like" your current position in life and still take an opportunity that you feel is very rare and fulfills a lifetime dream.

This.

We all want Fred to stay, and everyone agree's that it will be extremely difficult to match Fred's resume for the next guy...but to act like the best we can hope for is mediocrity if Fred leaves is ridiculous. 3 of the last 5 coaches at this University have won at very high levels. (Floyd, Eustachy, Hoiberg). Heaven forbid we give the next guy a chance to prove he can do the same IF Fred leaves us.
