I'm not really into the dad bod obsession, if I have to drag my *** to the gym every day to not look like a schlub, guys do too. That doesn't mean they have to be a fitness model.

OK, first off, part of the reason I ask is I think the whole thing is ridiculous, but as I understand it, it's not fatty level of let themselves go, just 'not a fitness model'. Like, 'hey, if I want a man that looks like a fitness model, he's also probably going to be a self centered ego bro, so maybe I'd rather have one that's not so obsessed and be more happy overall'

However, I guess I should admit that this 'perception' I reference is reading juuust a tiny bit. I don't think I've ever read much other than the teaser paragraphs as I scroll thru blogs, so maybe I'm way off.

Sara hope hubby gets better, was the tailgate tour fun?

Pants I just said personal pics. You seem to think I suggested something else.

CG is 15 bucks a good price for a fifth of Bacardi select?

KC do you happen to have a pic of the pickup box full of mushrooms? I can't imagine finding that many.

This. Mrs. Velo was drooling over you just talking about it. She would probably lick the screen if you posted this.

The original article that started this whole dad bod thing was from a girl that said "I don't want a ripped guy to make me feel more insecure about myself so yay dadbod". I think that part is total bs. If a girl is totally insecure dating someone who hasn't seen the inside off a gym this decade isn't going to solve that problem.

OK, I took it as "I don't want a guy with a 6 pack because they're ego bros that expend the effort to get those", so yeah, eff the whole concept of a woman feeling insecure because of anyone else's body. Honestly, I think if I had a magic wand and could fix any problem in the world, women's body insecurities and the things we as a society do to women over their bodies would be the first one after the world hunger/peace/etc. ones.

Also, part of the reason I'm semi-fascinated with this whole trend (if it is that, and not just regurgitated sound-bite media <it's a good tag line, dad bod>) is that I'm probably that. Just checked, I'm 1 pound into overweight at 5-11 and 179 (but that's not typical, I gained 8 lbs in a week at the in-laws eating their crappity-crap crap food), but other than watching my food intake to make sure I'm mostly staying even keel, I do nothing. I'm not a big fat fattie, but I'm not 'in-shape'...and I also can't imagine anyone swooning over my form other than Mrs. 00clone...so while I'm intrigued, it seems ridiculous to me.

So, CG, 55...what's your thoughts on the whole "dad bod" thing...I mean, just for discussion's sake?

*edit: I should be clear that inputs from the other ladies are welcome as well, it's just that I assume that Rev, Birdy, KC, etc. are natch okay with dad bod, since, well, they're married to dad bods.

Hell, I'm married to a granddad bod. You know, we were both slimmer back then. Age & gravity hit both of us. His barrel chest has settled more into a barrel belly. Not fat, per se, but not a hard body any more. Me? Well..went from a size 6 to a size none-of-your-business-but-more-than-I-used-to-be. ;)

Honestly, though...what attracted me was his eyes and his personality. That hasn't changed. :)

Glad to hear, as this is all I have going for me.

I can respect the dudes that are dedicated enough top do.fitness competitions, but I feel like dating them could be horrible. It would be nothing but egg whites, brown rice and chicken. This girl likes pizza and ice cream too much for that lifestyle. I think there's a happy medium that most people would prefer, but again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

the whole thing seems squicky to me. Are they being proud of their dad-bodness/is it being considered a good thing to have? Not that it's a problem, but "mom-bod" would not be considered in the same manner, I believe. I don't think guys need to all look like Hugh Jackman () but then it'd be nice that all women (especially after having children) are not expected to look like Heidi Klum. And I wouldn't want Heidi Klum (and those like her) to feel bad for looking the way she does! I just wish that womens' bodies weren't scrutinized the way they are. I mean, I joke about Hugh and other fine specimens but Selena Gomez just got ripped apart for being fat when.......she is not. I feel like that same level of criticism just isn't there for guys like, oh Josh Radnor or some other completely normal, healthy guy.

IDK, I want people to want to take care of themselves and I don't want to get into the realm of doing mental gymnastics to say that being seriously obese is still healthy somehow, but I also don't want people being torn apart because of their weight. If that makes any sense.

I asked PapaLew; he didn't see the truck, he saw pictures (so I had that part wrong). The guy has pictures though; PapaLew said he'd try to get some for y'all.

55% of the reason I workout is for pizza and ice cream

NWICY, I have no idea on the Bacardi.......I think that much of Captain usually goes for like $17.

Ha, that's probably the other 45%. Maybe I'd give 10% for other cheese related-items.

Nothing wrong with mom bod.

Inside of a gym is overrated. Be like Boxster and get your workout through biking, gardening, yard work and strangling bunnies.

Sorry, the rest of the Boxster oldman fitness program does include dropping into Lifetime Fitness for da lifting of the weights and stuff.

I'll admit I was too embarrassed to say that it is me who rarely make it in to the gym. I try to do what I can elsewhere - my cardio is pretty good - but I really should get in and lift some.

Truth be told, I just wanted to drag the death of Satan spawn rabbits into the conversation.
