A current 1st rounder on roster?

In a post game presser after a close loss to KSU a few years ago, Rhoads made a statement about the talent differential between KSU and ISU by alluding to our lack of guys in the NFL. That was early in his tenure. At that point, it seemed like he really wanted to do something about it.

He did try to do something about it. Unfortunately the likes of Irving and Coe didn't work out and guys like Reynolds were for one reason or another never able to reach their full potential. There are probably better example, but those are the guys off the top of my head who I always thought had NFL potential.

Montgomery may have a faster 40 time but I'm pretty sure Lazard is faster in pads. Montgomery looked sluggish last year, while Lazard wasn't confident enough to play full speed yet. This year is crucial for Allen.
:twitcy: Don't get me wrong. This could possibly be the best WR corp that iSu has ever had. I really disagree with your statement though. I didn't think Montgomery looked sluggish at all. He gets out of cuts well, knows how to use his body and for someone that plays slower than Lazard, it is odd that he he outproduced Lazard. More yards/game, more total yards, more YPC. Keep in mind Montgomery didn't see the field consistently until Harris got hurt in the Iowa game. I would argue Montgomery has better hands but I get that Lazard can improve on that.

Montgomery is everything Lazard is except Lazard gets more pub here because he is from Iowa and was the #7-18, depending on service, ranked WR recruit.

"Money" Reynolds was recruited by chizdick and wasn't consistent enough to be NFL caliber. Josh Lenz showed game in and game out what it takes to be in the NFL but iSu fans are more impressed with flash. Jake Knott, George, Sims, Jansen Watson, Farniok, Irving and Bibbs are the NFL players Rhoads has recruited. I don't see any of the three that signed this year as lasting too long.

They kind of go hand in hand. If you have the talent to win more games, you will have more NFL talent. Please show me a Big 12 team that didn't have anyone drafted that won consistently.
On the other hand, KU had 3 players drafted this year.

First rounders? Lol. Let's just try to get a guy drafted in any round, every year for the next few years. Baby steps.

Lazard isn't explosive enough. He'll be a 3rd-4th round guy who has a long career as a supporting WR. Tribune isn't physical enough for his speed. He could become much better but he isn't supremely gifted at the position. KCM play a tough position to get to the first. You basically have to be a top 2 safety to do it and I doubt he does that. Will probably get drafted though. Campos is far too young at his position to be able to say. He could end up being and elite OT or he could end up being an average one. Montgomery is interesting because he's so big. Not a first round guy, but is going to get a lot of looks. I'm interested to see if he can run in the 4.5 range. Bundrage probably has the best chance of getting above the 3rd round but his production numbers will hurt him. He's the most complete. I just don't see him running the 40 he needs to get himself real high. Probably in the 4.5 range. The best bet right now is Tucker but he has to be versatile and prove that he can play DE in a 3-4 scheme which I think he can. We haven't even seen him yet so it's hard to tell but he plays a demanding position and could be a unique player.

All of that said, I don't think there's much for hope of a first rounder.

Forgot one- Daniel Burton. If he can stay healthy he's the best guard we've had in awhile. I would put him with KO in terms of how good he is at his position, at his age.

Well said. Montgomery did run a 4.52 but I'd like to see what he runs now at 235. If he runs a 4.5 he will get serious looks

If ifs and ands were pots and pans there'd be no work for tinkers hands.

The answer is absolutely not. We have division 2 bodies playing on a division 1 team.

Nope.

Campos, Lazard, Cotton-Moya all have the potential to get drafted, but I don't see them being first rounders.

Damn It. Breaking my vow to not comment on FB until August.

I think you are correct here.

I also think if this program is heading in a direction we (I) can live with, one or more of them will rise to 1st Round Quality. What I mean is - that has been the problem, I think we occasionally get the raw talent but it usually leaves raw. Time to coach a few of these studs up.

No. Lazard doesn't have the breakaway speed needed to be a 1st rounder. He's essentially Todd Blythe. Possibly a late rounder, but most likely not drafted. He'll dominate in college though.

He committed under Rhoads. If we call Klein a Rhoads recruit than we should do the same for Reynolds.

The correct answer is Michael Warren.

I hope you are right, but I'd be really surprised. He'd have to become one of the best three running backs in his draft class essentially and unless our offensive line becomes one of the top three in the conference I don't see that happening.

Sure, they beat us, but I wouldn't call that winning consistently in the Big12.
When did I say KU won consistently? Three draft picks isn't a lot of talent. Now if they had three draft picks every year, that is a different story, but they don't. They are like iSu.

Maybe we should forget about winning football games and just focus all our efforts on getting 1 player drafted in the first round. Pick the best guy and train him Rocky 4 style.
