ISU's release regarding Darien Williams' release

I like this analysis, but I think it assumes a three guard two forward setup. Else we are short a forward or two.
That will not work well against some teams. Need more flexibility. I do not consider Nader or Georges great rebounders. McKay dropped off the last two games for some reason also. McKay could have had more rebounding opportunities against UAB if he was closer to the action.

I think Burton has the type of body where he can match up with most small forwards, both offensively and defensively.

Williams is a large loss. Do not kid yourself. Three years to play.

Just because he has three years to play he is a huge loss???

Sorry I just don't see this as a huge loss. He put up numbers at Iowa Western. Was a three star JUCO. Big deal. also, nobody knows what kind of work he had put in with all this time off.

They already are pursuing a higher ranked JUCOS in Boucher.

Wow- some on here are talking about Williams as though he was the 2nd coming or something.

Granted, he looked like he would be a very good player, and a perfect fit for Hoiball, but no one can say that for sure, and that will known one way or another for at least a year. He may or may not adapt to Division I ball, and he may or may not possess the same skills and abilities as he did before his surgery. We just don't know at this point. Only time will tell.

What I don't get is why so many on here lack confidence in CFH or TJ's abilities to comb through the transfers (over 350 now) or high school recruits still available to find players that fit the system and that will help ISU next year as well as in years to come. What in their pasts history as coaches and recruiters points to failure this time for you?

Fred plays 8 guys usually

Monte
Naz
Cooke
Matt
Nader
Burton
Georges
McKay

If we were to get Diallo that would be 9 players expected to contribute. You sound pretty confident that he would knock out someone like Nader or Burton out of the rotation without ever seeing him play. I firmly believe if we got Diallo that Williams would not have played this season. And to say a 2/3 star JUCO coming off surgery is just as proven as the #1 PF recruit in the country is just not using common sense.
Where is this 2/3 star juco coming from? By most accounts would have easily been a 4 star juco had he stayed.

We could make do with proper spacing, but another big guy would be nice. And don't we have to wait till December for Burton?

I think it is a huge loss and we will be just fine. They aren't mutually exclusive positions.

Than so is Custer with your logic.

Williams is very good. You will see when he plays for another school. It was an excellent match for Fred ball. Plus he was already committed unlike Cheick, Boucher or many hundreds of others. Just do not want anymore KJ Blufords because that is what we could get.

I have seen him play. He seemed like a nice piece to our team, but nowhere the addition this thread is making him out to be. Just because he was committed does not mean he would be the next Niang as far as impact goes for us... As usual, CF fans are just looking for a reason that the world is crumbling.

So much drama about the back end of our roster.

We've got back 4/5 starters (Niang, Morris, McKay, Long)
Long does have his injury woes this off-season, but at least he is working to get healthy
He clearly wasn't himself late last year
We add a dead-eye all-Freshman from the Pac-12
Granted, coming off another bad injury, but he's had recovery time
Add another all-Freshman freak athlete from the Big East
Keep Nader and Thomas, who started to come on late last year, particularly Thomas

+ 3/4 more (I would imagine Fred banks a scholarship)

TJ and Fred are making 50 calls a day from here through June

I admit, we need one more post. But we've got the guns to get one.

Diallo may or may not happen, but we're pretty set for next year save one more post body.

@khaal53 Versatility is the word I've heard the most. Had someone tell me he might be best JuCo in that class nationally.

Also, Scout's National Juco guy said it too behind the paywall, had him as the top 2015 Juco in the class which is traditionally a 4 star.

Most of the concern is for 2016-17. A lot of roadbuilding to do for the following year. Naz and Deonte will be non factors during non conference. Matt Thomas and Hallice Cook time to shine.

Absolutely no one has mentioned the addition of Burton since Williams signed or the insane emergence of McKay last season in regards to Williams leaving. It's just as likely to me that Williams saw those two things and said, "I'm not going to play very much" next year and used the MA departure as a solid springboard to leave. The people that are whining about Williams leaving would have been the same people whining and moaning about him not being able to play defense or rebound at a B12 level next season. Because whatever people think about how good he would have been or how great of a fit for Hoiball experience and seasoning are the only things that makes a player adequate at those things in this conference and he would have had neither.

I this is it right here. One or two post players and we should have a great year. Might have to make compromises till December depending on who we get, but more to be positive about than negative. Just need a post or two.
