I feel like the same people that think we lost out on an All Big 12 player coming off double shoulder surgery are the same fans concerned about how Naz and Cooke will come back after their hip surgeries. Some people just need something to complain about...luckily football season is just around the corner and I can ignore those threads
Even though that is still 2 years away, the roster hasn't been filled out yet, and you haven't seen Williams play yet.
I was never excited about Nader or bluford. Both seemed like volume shooters and very meh. Williams I have been stoked for a while. Dude will be a stud and we will use Abdelmassih as a curse word or verb for getting kicked in the nuts right when we are on the cusp of big things.

A guy diminishing the loss of Williams because he is unproven at this level then asking if he is better than a couple uncommitted high school recruits. So much stupidity indeed. Try thinking before you post.
What makes that ridiculous? It's simply his opinion. Some people here have actually seen Williams play.

this thread has gone off the deep end and turned this guy into Keven Durant, when in reality, he was a nice recruit who may or may not pan out as a good big 12 player

I'm not diminishing the loss of Williams, I certainly wasn't excited about it. I just think it's ridiculous to talk about him like he's a proven commodity to be a terrific player. Not one person has seen him play since his surgery. I have seen Bridges and Diallo play, Diallo is a McDonald's AA and Bridges most likely will be. I can say as a fact I think those are high level players. I know there was talk about Williams being one of the best JUCOs in the country before he got hurt but even then he was still a 2/3 star player...IMO there is just as good of a chance of him being a bust as him being a stud. I honestly think if he was supposed to be a game changer Fred would have put restrictions on him. I didn't even expect him to be part of the rotation this year if we ended up getting Diallo. No matter where Williams goes I can guarantee you we'll have someone better on our roster than him in 2016-17 not named Monte
I agree. Could be wrong but I think we'll be pretty bummed the next couple years when we see the numbers he puts up wherever he goes. Having 3 to play made him the potential "future" in my mind. At the very least I felt much more comfortable about 16-17's roster with him on the team. Tauren Prince-esque imo.
Edit: Speaking to the current roster of 16-17. 100% this could end up not being an issue when that season actually rolls around. I'm sure Fred has plans in motion.

Both Williams and Hoiberg have been pretty quiet about his reason for leaving. Didn't Williams even state that he didn't want to answer the question about whether his leaving was related to Matt A going to STJ? You can't read too much into something like that, but it would seem to be pretty easy to say "no" if the answer was "no." So, it might be that Matt A is recruiting him to STJ, not necessarily against us, but as a better fit for someone who might not like Iowa. And it might also be that TJ and FH have other prospects and weren't as committed to Matt's promises. Probably will never know.
Seems that we should be focused most on our Top 7 for next season. Let Niang finish with a deep run in the NCAA. Adding Diallo and an effective rebounder would be priorities.

Not necessarily, hip surgery is more serious than shoulder tightening surgery, 6 months vs. 1 month recovery time.
This may be the best post in this whole thread. We really have no idea how important Fred saw him in his plans....nor how excited Williams was this past year to come here after being home, or how good this kid would have been at ISU.....time to move on
Didn't realize Bridges reclassified to 2015, signed a LOI, and the staff made recruiting decisions based on it. Williams was much better than you realize and would have been a major contributor next year and a starter after that. In an ISU sense, particularly for 15-16, he is just as proven as guys that Diallo and certainly an uncommitted 2016 recruit. But sure, compared to Thon Maker he is a lowly juco.

If we were to get Diallo that would be 9 players expected to contribute. You sound pretty confident that he would knock out someone like Nader or Burton out of the rotation without ever seeing him play. I firmly believe if we got Diallo that Williams would not have played this season. And to say a 2/3 star JUCO coming off surgery is just as proven as the #1 PF recruit in the country is just not using common sense.
MattA now believes STJ can win the national championship next year with Cheick and Darien.
I like this analysis, but I think it assumes a three guard two forward setup. Else we are short a forward or two.
