Decision Time on Jackson

I wanted to take some time and post here about KJ... Understand I do not dislike KJ. I certainly agree that he is doing a "pretty good" job and has not done anything to deserve getting fired. Unless of course you go by standards that other sports have set forth.... I think the quick to fire syndrome is not a great way to treat people.

With that said.... I must tell you and I have said this before. The kids on this team do not LOVE KJ!!! It is very much a split room. I am trying not to be a creep here but the Kids DO love the Assistants but "MOST" kids want KJ to leave.

Coach Jackson is a very negative motivator and has a hard time with kids not being able to compete at the level that he did. KJ was a STUD!!! And college wrestling is not easy... Hell look at this years tournament and break down the kids that you would have expected to AA... KJ has a real hard time with kids that do not improve quickly.

If they wrestled the NCAA's again next week with the same exact same brackets "nearly" every weight would be different... Wrestling is a Tough sport and it does not care who you are... SO as bad as we feel for our under-acheiving Cyclone the other programs feel the same way.

Just one wrestling insider that knows the truth....

If this is completely true, that's fine and I'm ok if Jackson was let go because of that. If you talk to any ISU wrestling supporter, they want what's best for the program. The one person (won't mention any names but u know who I am referring to) that just asks questions and obviously hates KJ with all the negativity he brings here, only talks when they do poorly. Most loyal fans have questioned if Jackson is the right guy to have here. But it's very hard to not be supportive when he is improving the program every year. That's not saying we are happy with where the program is at but why would we be constantly negative with things are still improving every year?

Okay woke up pretty good this morning after that emotional WIN WIN WIN for Kyven oh and some Ice Cream to top it off. :spinny:

So I'll take this and try to push aside your past posts and have a "normal" convo. Here are my thoughts on the subject.

-JP is not going to be interested in looking for a new coach because 1) his health 2) wrestling is NOT a priority on his list. (this of course goes out the window unless it is from within.
-I highlighted my opionion on the ones your listed above so check that out
-Proud of Kyven. Proud of KJ for the emotions you can tell he had with Kyven.
-Think we could have done better this year but that's Matness for you hell look at WVU's 125lber. Just out of no where and actually if he could have landed that cement mixer bam champion.
-Someone earlier mentioned if a donor dropped a million if it would help.. YES YES YES heck even 1/2 million would go a long ways. You think about that, it is crazy because that "little" going to say football or other revenue sports wouldn't be anything but in wrestling it would be everything.
-Sad to see Big M go, disappointed tourney but was a great Clone and even better leader.
-Opinion on next year will be reserved for a later time.

Thank you for making an attempt. Why not Hahn? Why not Sanderson? Eggum would be a bit of a gamble but when is J going to leave? He would be worth talking to. Why the no to Flynn? And what does "Good luck with that" mean?

ISU would be an incredibly attractive job for any of the men listed. I like Cody first and Pariano 2nd. Both would be VERY interested in the position.

Hmm mommy not sure who to believe Kyven Gadson huge endorsement of KJ or your opinion from an "insider". Similar to another poser poster really surprised you show up now LOL. I challenge everyone to again review your post history and find anything remotely close to showing you care at all about ISU wrestling.

Ummmm...this whole thread is filled with me doing more than asking questions. The questions are most often asked of me. Also, we are dropping down in the standings every year so I don't understand how you can say we are improving every year. The results say otherwise.

Well, Kyven has the level of talent KJ did and beyond. He would be in the group of kids that mesh with KJ if the above is true. Overall, I'm also skeptical of his post, for the record.

I don't believe I have singled our Moreno but might be wrong. I even said after his first match I still thought he would be on the podium. But since we are playing, Cabell is a junior that was never a high school champion, wasn't a rated recruit, has never been an AA and was the 7 seed; he lost to the the 3rd and 5th place finishers who have 7 AA finishes between them. Moreno is a senior, was highly recruited, was the 2 seed and 2-time AA who lost to a guy who was barely .500 and to the 7th place finisher. Who had a better showing?

When using UNI as your measuring stick ISU should win 9 times out of 10. ISU is a bigger school with more tradition, better financial support, better facilities, etc. ISU should be attracting better athletes and have more depth year in and year out. ISU is a "have" in wrestling. UNI is a "have not." They have zero tradition in D-1 wrestling. ISU shouldn't be judged based on UNI yet for some reason you keep going back to it. ISU is much closer to an Iowa than a UNI.

I think we should move on from KJ because this program is underachieving under his watch. Not because of one bad match or performance. It is because the program's performance over a long period of time.

But if you want to talk about UNI--they ARE on the rise. The fans are incredibly motivated/excited and their performance and depth has improved. This was a rebuilding year and they were hit hard by injuries on top of it. They shouldn't be at ISU's level, ever. When they are, it's a sign things aren't right in Ames. I would love to find a coach who could motivate the fan base as much as Schwab has at UNI. Note that I didn't list him as a possible replacement for KJ--I don't think he's shown enough in terms of results quite yet.
My god you make this easy......do you wear purple under wear? Quit posting and go away

Yes. I'm the one who brought up UNI. /facepalm

I love the sport and UNI is the only option for me to attend D-1 meets. I sit with several people who are in a similar boat. Not seeing why that is so controversial here, but whatever.

-Hahn I truly believe is comfortable where he is at right now, but who knows maybe not. I just dont see him leaving Cornell at this time.
-Sanderson sorry I just do not want him. I know he isn't Cael but bitter taste is left in the mouth.
-Eggum will wait it out. I mean come on you seriously think he wont?
-Perry to Iowa state...just believe he is getting treated really well at Illinois.
1st choice Paulson. Pariano 2nd.

Edit: Forgot about Tim. Same reason as a Hahn just don't see him leaving where he is at. I'm being realistic here because I know JP isn't going to do searching so gotta stay grounded in the thinking.

I'm sure Hahn is very happy but there are jobs that will lure him from there eventually. I'd like to think ISU might be one. Same for Perry but he's down on my list. He comes off as kind of a ****** and he's got Iowa-stink on him. Though he does hate Brands so that would be fun. My guess is Heffernan hangs it up in a few years and that job will be his.

I agree with your other points. All well thought out.

I posted in the Big XII thread just two weeks ago. And a positive post at that. And every post in the NCAA thread was also positive. We didn't beat anyone of consequence in a dual this year so I don't know what you mean there.

This thread has become more about me than the subject at hand. A MAJOR decision is coming and people want to whine about a fellow poster. This program has beaten the life out of people, IMHO.

NEICyFan I'm kind of with you. Give the ladies swim coach Kyven to work with and I'd expect about the same results. Don't see wrestlers getting much better during their time here. I grew up watching a premier program. Not even close after how many years since Sanderson leaving. Many here are saying wrestling is not important so who cares if we keep him. If that's the case, who cares if we let him go...what's Varner doing these days?

The adults are having an adult conversation about the future of the wrestling program. Your posts are ruining an otherwise civil discussion. So, congrats for that. Well done,.
I would encourage the other Adults to do what I did and read your post history. ...kinda speaks for itself...would love to have an actual discussion about cyclone wrestling with cyclone fans on here but you just won't stop posting.

Cyclone Report is a wasteland with almost no posts or views because of posters like NEIPantherHawkFan. Cyclone Fanatic has a pretty decent community when it comes to wrestling because trolls like him have been chased off. In fact CF is just about the only wrestling community on the web that isn't dominated by trolls. Try reading The Mat, The Open Mat, or other wrestling boards. They are terrible.

cloneswillwin might seem to be over-reacting right now, but he's doing exactly what needs to be done.

Persistence is key.

Yep, a little over a year ago after cyclone report was ruined for wrestling fans by the troll posters I started looking at post histories of a couple frequent posters on here. Never here when good things happen, always here when bad things happen, always defending Iowa and Northern Iowa coaches and wrestlers. Came to the conclusion that if they (NEICYFAN and CycloneGrappler) are cyclone fans then they need another venue to spill their negativity. We can go back to normal conversations as soon as they stop posting and go away.

Sorry but at this moment Hahn isn't going to be leaving the progressive program that Cornell is putting together, he (which who could blame him) wants to be apart of it if they can pull off a big year run.
