Calm the heck down

I am mostly upset about how poorly Hogue and GN played. There were way too many stupid turnovers for the whole team, but those guys had just crazy bad turnovers. Yes the defense against the 3 could have been better, but Baylor was on fire, and sometimes guys make shots no matter how they are defended. Besides, BU is also great on the boards and most of the open threes were caused by ISU guards crashing the boards when it looked like BU was going to put up an inside shot. If there is any fault it is with the coaches and players not adjusting to the drive and dish that BU used so effectively.

Still a very reasonable chance at sharing the Big 12 championship and being a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Holy **** you'd think this team just played themselves off the bubble with the way people are reacting.

I think its more frustration with the fact that the same problems plaguing us all year are still costing us games and its almost March. If we get bounced early in KC and the Dance because we refuse to guard the perimeter and can't make free throws, then that will be on this team and staff because they have refused to address those issues

Hitting 5/5 on contested threes when shooting for your life on the road is pretty impressive.

Most of those shots weren't contested, and that's the problem. Running at an open shooter after he has started his shooting motion is not contesting a shot. For a skilled shooter, it's pretty much too late at that point for the defender to have any meaningful impact on the shot. Contesting a shot is closely guarding a shooter as he is starting to shoot, and trying to legally disrupt or distract his shooting motion. ISU relies to much on the former and doesn't do the latter consistently, which is why teams often have a shooting field day against ISU.

We lost a home game for the first time all year and everyone wants to crucify somebody. Baylor is a top 25 team. Jesus, people. We are 20-7 and tied for second place in the toughest conference in America. Some of our "disappointing" players are really stepping up right now. This is a very talented team that lost to another talented team. It happens.

I'm disappointed because this essentially takes away the possibility of a two seed, but what the heck. This team is likely going to be a 3-4 seed in March and that's pretty damn good. Calm down.

I agree, and I don't think anybody is abandoning this team. As always is the case in these discussions, it's not that ISU lost that people get upset about, it HOW they lose. Baylor played really well yesterday, and so did ISU for most of the game. Many times this year, the losses have come from the team saying they didn't take the opponent seriously (this is the worst). Defense have been a huge problem for this team, and everyone knows it. The last couple games they've really improved, so yes, fans get frustrated when we lose by largely by taking a step backwards this late in the season. And the sloppy/careless turnovers-wtf? This team has a difficult time playing 40 minutes of tough basketball. We all see the huge potential of this team, and want to see them live up to it, as the player do also. Let people vent for a day, then tomorrow, it will be back to loving the team and supporting them against KSU. GO Cyclones!

Up until about the 8min mark (when drew called his last TO) it didnt' even look like Baylor belonged on same court as us. Then the wheels fell off.

This team is one of the most talented teams we've had but their also the most inconsistent. It's frustrating to see their potential and what they could do this year, and then we have games like last night.

Sorry, but this is very wrong. Both teams were about equal. Baylor is much more gifted athletically.

What was ISU's biggest lead, like 6 points? It's not like ISU was running away with it. Baylor had to pray for a bunch of points, got them really, really fast, and then could just run around with the ball and drive the basket every time without caring whether or not they scored cause ISU was cold as ice and Baylor's defense (in part due to their superiority athletically) was really tough.

Uhhhh... we were down three at halftime. Did you watch the game?

Credit to Scott Drew, he pulled Rico and put in a bunch of shooters and the started draining 3's and we didn't adjust

As I posted (in another thread, I think) Naz, Georges and Hogue were pretty bad. 19 points and 10 of our 12 TO's.

BoxsterCy had a great point - the 'Clones have played ranked teams 10 times, that's a third of their games. So out of 350+ teams in Division 1, we have played the top 25 1 game out of 3. Our record is not too shabby, considering.

Yea, that would really be annoying if that happened.

Go read the game thread dude. There is plenty of that type of talk in there. Here are just a few examples:

WTF? Baylor makes 7 threes a game...so sick of this crap every game

We have to be the worst defensive team in the country. It's embarrassing

Every team goes on a career high in 3 point shooting vs. us..... Urgh!!!!

Worst loss of the year.

Mother ******* ********. We suck.

Worst game Fred has ever coached here at Iowa State

Wrong this is the worst LOSS in the last 2 seasons.....

Lack of leadership--I'm looking at you Georges.

I think we have to go into Disaster Recovery Mode.

This team thinks they are way better than they actually are. Feeling an early exit in the tourney this year.

Nope teams that don't defend generally dont go far. Somebody will go off on us and send us home.

Again, I'm fine with discussing, criticizing, being upset, etc but to say stupid **** like a few of these posts after every single loss is just plain dumb.

Every fan base a few of "those guys". Go check out the vaunted KU fans melting down after the KSU loss, same statements of misery and hopelessness.
This board and its posters are in good company.

Spanky is right. I am obviously a KU fan as indicated by my username. Losing to K-State is the lowest of the low - under any circumstance (especially when the Big 12 race is so close). However, losing to BU is a much different story. If I were an ISU fan, I would be rather optimistic of the chances of securing a share of the Big 12 title after seeing the competition that KU just lost to. You know that the same KSU team that beat KU is NOT going to show up against ISU. KSU only seems plays good when KU comes to town. I think ISU has a very good chance of winning out the rest of the season. On the other hand, my school just lost to the worst college in the entire Milky Way galaxy, so who knows what's going to happen with us.

I saw on here somewhere that Iowa State fans are considering themselves as becoming our new "rivals." I believe that is true to some extent. However, I hope that ISU does not become another KSU. KU fans view KSU fans as the little brother who never wins anything - the team with a huge inferiority complex. I see some comments on here that seem to suggest the same thing about ISU fans with the whole "Kansas must be destroyed" thing. But I also see other comments that are well-reasoned and display much more intelligence than any KSU fan could ever hope to muster. I think that a majority of KU fans, including myself, respect Iowa State and know that the games could go either way when we play eachother. I hope that continues because we need a good rival. KSU is not a rivalry - it is KU dominating KSU for years and years and KSU occasionally squeaking out a win.

At the end of the day, I think KU will end up sharing the title with ISU this year.

Yes, watched it. I was referring to the stretch where McKay was on pace set a record for most 2 handed dunks(if such stat is actually kept). We were running away with it. Then poof, it was gone.

If Baylor shoots even close to their avg from 3 we run away with this game. Shooting 56% for a game is unreal.

I was completely out of my mind when those 5 threes went down in a row. Literally...my wife yelled at me on 3 separate occasions from upstairs due to the volume of the obscenities flying around.

That said...we threw away A LOT of possessions. I feel like you can get away with that if you play at our pace....IF you play defense.

This. As Baylor went on its run last night, the first thing that I thought of was "They just pulled a Texas on us and went to a smaller faster lineup that can shoot." They honestly looked a lot like us when we are clicking offensively: driving, dishing to the perimeter and then swinging it to a wide open shooter. Scott Drew called a good game. If they missed some of those wide open looks and lost, he would have been mocked for his time out usage again. It just worked last night.

I've learned to stay away from the post-game threads after a loss. Lotta venting which is fine, but a lot of stupid as well. I find it funny that a lot of people want to jump on Amarner32 for starting this thread. He basically is just asking people to act like they would after they get a chance to cool down. You can be ****** and express it. It's a message board. But it's equally allowable to get called out for posting really stupid, over-the-top **** that you probably wouldn't say after you cooled down.

We didn't adjust defensively, we panicked a bit offensively. They didn't miss for a stretch. Ball game. Move on to the next one and try to learn from it.

Every fan is frustrated. We all wanted to win. We all knew what was at stake. Now let's go beat K-State.
