They have been working on the bridge outside of my office for the past week. Near as I can tell, they succeeded in raising the first 10 feet of the guard rail about 2 feet. It's the perfect height so now we can't see traffic coming across the bridge unless we pull into traffic. Brilliant!

I have to deal with the same thing when I pull out of my neighborhood, except the thing obstructing my view is that the road I'm turning onto the on hill, so it's nearly impossible to see to my left when I'm pulling out. It doesn't help that someone decided to plant trees right next to the road, making it even harder to see. Luckily a storm knocked them all over a week after they were planted, so I don't have to deal with that mess anymore.

Those with white crop pants would be very cute.

I swear I will never wear white bottoms. Not just because of the scenario cyrev alluded to, but that I'm a klutz and a dirt magnet.

I like to live dangerously, I like white pants/shorts for summer. With 2 toddlers. But at least if they get dirty, I can blame it on the kids.

The sweets of my labor, for the local middle school staff. A group of parents collected donations and had Hickory Park catered in. Instead of donating, I offered to make dessert. The coordinators gave me a $20 GC to Wallaby's for my donation. Not how it was supposed to work, but I'll take it! Have a day off, then more treat making tomorrow. Teachers be gettin food from us. And iTunes gc. After working in the schools a few years before kids (I once had a real job!), personally I don't want scented candles or lotions or cheesy tchotchkes. Those things went right I to the Goodwill box (sorry kiddos). I give GC to places I think the teachers might like. And food.

ETA: I had my "helpers" along when I dropped off/set up the desserts. The table was right at the 20mo old level and she licked one of the cheesecakes. I swear I took that one home. And ate it myself.

shoot, you weren't kidding when you said you had quality standards! Gift card comment noted for the future. I love gift cards myself, so I can imagine a teacher liking one to a nice clothing store or something along those lines.

giftcards don't even have to be big amounts. I was a "specialist" (not a teacher) and $5 from a bookstore or Starbucks was awesome if you want to give a little gift. Living where we do we have lots of Cyclone fans for teachers so I've done Cy's Locker Room. And Target giftcards are nice when there is a Starbucks inside because they can be used for either. :)

Look out...my own stream of consciousness.

Be glad you aren't at my apartment now, CG. They're trimming back tree branches, so it's constant chainsaw noise right now. No nap for me.

Forgot to mention I took the corner of a box to my eye yesterday. Well, just below my eye. The tiniest of swelling and soreness when I touch it. I'm twisted because I'm quite disappointed that it hasn't turned darker. Would make for a great story at Christmas.

And, I'm back to the drawing board for a present for my husband's stepdad. One of my items from Amazon won't be coming. :/

Two chainsaws going now...now wondering if another Friday the 13th sequel is being filmed.

I nominate Birdy to bring treats to the "first annual someday in the future denizens, lurkers and detractors of random thoughts threads party".

I'm very egalitarian.

boooooooooo chainsaws. I suggest a Birdy dessert for the stepdad. And IDK on the eye. Hopefully it either gets better or turns into a black eye for stories.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you remind me very much of my mother. She didn't work a job outside the home, but she was ALWAYS busy. Just about every year she was a room mother or campfire girls leader or childrens' choir director, and served in leadership roles in the church & community. She also made most of our clothes and provided treats for bake sales...seemed like weekly!

I think I had it easier going to a job every day. :)

sara, your chainsaw post made me think of something funny.

One of the (many) things we brought back from my MIL's house last month was an autographed Tony Esposito hockey mask:

That mask was sitting on my table creeping me out for about 2 weeks before I told my wife to move it somewhere else. One day, I notice it's gone so I ask her what she did with it. She looks me dead in the eyes and goes, "I didn't touch it, I thought you moved it." Then she walked out of the room and shut the lights out on me and lets out this creepy laugh.

If she would have somehow had a chainsaw sound effect at that exact moment, I may have peed myself

I like your wife.

I feel like everyone should know that Cooler made an amazing joke in regards to something I posted, but in respect of the thread and it's posters and not wanting to get it shut down, PMd it instead.

Sorry, I'm late. Just got out of an eight plus hour meeting. This project is going to be the death of me.

As far as cleaning the jeans without actually cleaning them I have heard you put vodka in a spray bottle and spray them to remove smells and kill whatever is living in them. Supposedly (if you aren't a spiller like Mrs. Velo) you can get away with practically never washing them.

I have never tried this - at least not this way. I have only tried it pouring the vodka inside while wearing the jeans. I don't think it works that way - at least I have very foggy recollections of it not working.

I can sew, but haven't made my girls any clothes since the oldest was about 9mo. ;) My mom was a home ec teacher for awhile, so now any sewing gets deferred to Grandma (who sewed all her own clothes through college--ISU had a dress code when she went through, she is about 10yrs older than you). I am waiting to do more volunteer work until the younger ones are older. My hubby loves that we are still paying on my grad school loans when I haven't worked in almost 12 years.
