I think what he was trying to say was that in other states, the police would have done nothing if they smelled marijuana. New York is one of those states. They would have to literally see it to press a charge.
Further, the guy u quoted lived in a luxury apartment building. You don't pay 4k a month to smell weed in your ventilation system. If that happened where I worked (and it has) I wouldbe getting calls every day with handy men coming up to try to Improve the ventilation to make it stop.
Finally, mr white lives in a college town paying chump change living in an apt building. If he needs a quiet place to stay, rent out a duplex or a trailer. . .

I have never heard the analogy that West Ames is where you live if you want peace and quiet. It was far from that out on Steinbeck when I lived there
Anymore, if you want peace and quiet live at Somerset. The West Ames apartment scene has been growing like crazy due to the record enrollments. More people, more parties.
A person who only wants quiet and who is not trying to cause more trouble wouldn't talk to the media like this kid is. Even if you think you are right in this case you would lay low and not say something stupid like he shouldn't be on the team.
It's easy to see that this turned into a stupid feud where BDJ and his roommates started being extra jerks to Matt White because they were irritated with him and Matt White started being an extra **** (i.e. reporting them for not crazy loud noises).
Can we drop the **** about Matt White? Whatever the case may be between the two of them, BDJ should have taken the situation into account and adjusted accordingly. The whole thing is overblown, but let's put that part of it to rest.
Nader has gotten multiple noise violations as well. If I were a betting man I'd assume when the cops showed up yesterday morning BDJ escalated the situation by being a jerk to them and Nader didn't, so BDJ got hauled off and Nader just got a noise citation.
And by "can we", I mean there are posters that are no longer with us who have taken this a bit too far, and I don't think we need anyone joining them #sleepwiththefishes
What I learned: West Ames is a designated "Peace and Quiet" zone apparently? I didn't see the sign last time I went west of State St.
Id have to agree that this kid is a huge tool. I just found out he is from my home town, which makes it worse. I feel for what he has been through and agree BDJ is out of line. But if all you were looking for was a little peace and quiet to stick to your studies then you wouldn't be talking to the media this much. Making it much worse on himself right now but I guess he will at least have a quiet finals week.
Good teams overcome adversity. We have better players and more depth. Maybe this is a good thing, gets BDJ focusing on what's important in his only season in Ames. That said, he's still awfully young, and good people learn from their mistakes. Let's hope this is a one-time thing. Fred's gotta be disappointed, though.
This isn't about a single noise violation. and it's not about a whiny neighbor. It's about a dumb **** who had the cops called on him multiple times, and had already met with Fred and the cops on this issue. Bottom line - he ****** off the coach. Fred's totally within his rights to discipline him. If it wasn't the Iowa game tonight, this thread would have ended long ago.
Matt White wasn't the only guy who had a problem with these guys. People will do anything not to blame an athlete. It's not the end of the world but it's not Matt White's fault. Trust me, I know for a fact.
