Bigger issue with DeJean-Jones

You're complaining that he's selfish on the court?

Honestly, that opinion was based pretty much solely on the Maryland game. He didn't seem to be respecting Niang when he was talking to him on the court. He had zero assists that game as well. When there was adversity, he seemed to go out on his own. I'm not going to beat the drum on this opinion, but that is where it came from. I do think, as I said originally, that he has been playing better team ball since then.

Agree.

And this isn't a Freshman who is experiencing college for the first time.

A college coach shouldn't have to babysit.

Yes....thankfully not a major offense, but doesn't seem respectful at all.

I got news for you guys. The NBA has a lot guys that "don't seem respectful".

Big deal. Deal with it.

If you want to only recruit super nice guys, get used to the NIT being a major accomplishment.

I don't really see the point of starting a new thread for this.

The point is an old man who thinks he knows BDJ based on a couple of articles from his previous school, and an overreaction by the Ames PD thinks he knows what kind of guy BDJ is.

If it happens again, I'll agree with you. One time, when the charges were dropped, means I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I am apparently in the minority on this site who has never had the cops knock on my door.

So, this may be unpopular to those of you who only care about this guy scoring points and playing basketball but oh well. I can't get behind this guy at this point. Can he play ball, yes. But my impression of him has been as a selfish person. Watching him play is sometimes irritating as he seems more me first than anyone else. Hearing that he has had the cops called on him multiple times for playing loud music and annoying his neighbors is just more of the same.

Yes, Fred had a talk with him apparently and his game got more team friendly. But apparently Fred was also called in to meet with BDJ and the cops. To me, that is ridiculous, childish, and disrespectful.

I hope this is the thing that makes him realize he's got a heck of an opportunity not just at ISU playing basketball, but in life.

To be clear, I don't think these charges are a big deal. It's the overall picture he's creating. The fact that he's apparently an ongoing nuisance to his neighbors, the cops, and the fact that his coach has to babysit him. That annoys me.

I wonder how many times the cops have been called on Niang for annoying his neighbors or how many times they were called on Fred in his days as a student. In fact, compare him to any of our "troubled transfers". There is more to it than scoring points on the floor to get the respect of the fan base. Being a gifted athlete only goes so far.

If it was so bad, then the cops would have charged him before last night. As I've said previously, I kind of get the feeling that the White kid was overreacting and the cops knew that it wasn't something that they would have charged anyone else with. That's why the stupid 'text him when he is too loud' part was implemented. That's why there was a compromise over noise on the weekend---if it was too noisy for legal reasons the weekends shouldn't matter.

BDJ and the roommates should have stopped that **** long before, but I get the feeling that the complainer was a bit dramatic and all involved knew it.

The cops didn't arrest him before as they were going out of their way to try to NOT HAVE to arrest him.

Let's be honest, total athlete privelage happening. How often do Ames police sit down with neighbors to find a solution like this (and inviting the states second highest paid employee)?

And after all of that, BDJ still didn't get it. And the noise was at 60 DB and the law says 55db (and it was reported cops heard them mocking the caller who asked them to turn it down)

Sounds like BDJ needs an attitude adjustment.

Can't stand when people look at him and say he's a selfish player. I feel like that is only said because he's a transfer. All of our transfers have been regarded as "selfish". He's 3rd on our team in assists and is a great passer and seems to be a great teammate.

He had a CAREER HIGH 8 Assists against GSU! You have had a bad opnion of him since day one. If Fred thought he was hurting the team he would be GONE. Fred wants to hang a championship banner in Hilton Colsium. Not a Big 12 Tourney Championship, not a Regular Season Championship, but a National Tourney Championship Banner. He knows Bryce can help do that. He knows how to handle these situations. If there was a chance that he thought Bryce was hurting the team then Bryce would not be here. We all know.

I went to college back in the 80's. I lived in the dorms with scholarship football players and scholarship wrestlers. Coaches routinely came by rooms to wake people up to get them to class on time. Not graduate assistants but actual coaches. Also the stuff they did was way worse from the BDJ accusations.
Same stuff has happened for a long time. I am not excusing it, but it is certainly not a new thing.
Now BDJ and all parties involved just need to move forward.

You realize Royce White was literally babysat from day one... you thinks it a coincidence he was clean as a whistle while at ISU? Do you not think this happens at every school? Heck, this preferential treatment happens in high school!

Did you hear what Naz had to say? They guys like him. Matt Thomas HAD A DUI! You aren't talking about him being selfish. You have a problem with him because he is a transfer from UNLV who is at his 3rd school in 5 years.

And you talk about him being unselfish on the floor? All the team has said about him is how is one of the first to congratulate, give a high five, and bring the team together. He is also currently 11th in the league in Assists.

I assume you and others like you are sitting back smiling to yourselves saying, "Yup! Knew this was gonna happen! I called from day one!"

You will be singing a different tune when he has a stat line of 23/6/5 and helps sends ISU to the Sweet Sixteen.

I knew this would be unpopular with some. But I think you guys are reading WAY too much into what I'm saying. The main point I'm making is about his off the field actions. If anyone can honestly sit here and say that the fact that he has had multiple run ins with the cops is a non issue, then I guess we can just agree to disagree.

This is no higher than thou type of position. I want to like this guy. I didn't have an opinion about him based on his transfer status. In fact, I've been a big fan of pretty much every transfer we've had. Even in college, I would know better than to blast my music at all hours if the cops had already been called on me. Certainly if they'd already had 6 trips!

I liked his mug shot. I am sure he has practiced that in the mirror. So much angst. So intimidating. Such a badass.
A rebel without a clue. Boring.

I'm not saying this situation is a huge deal (and it is under a microscope which makes it worse), but this is a straw man argument people love to throw around. We didn't seem to have any major blow ups (media-wise) the past few years and had plenty of real tournament upside. Not being perfect and making mistakes, which we all do, is normal, but we do pay consequences for those mistakes.

Lol zero assists vs maryland no one by him could hit a shot that game. Unreal.

60 dBs is what the cops picked up. 5 over the limited for that time of day. He wasn't blasting music. If you have ever lived in an APT in Ames you would know those walls are paper thin. Was he in the wrong? Yes, but to say he was blasting music is asinine.

As I said, "BASED PRETTY MUCH SOLELY ON THE MARYLAND GAME"... I didn't see the GA St game. I don't get to see every single game so take that opinion for what it's worth. It's the most unimportant point of my entire post. I also said the selfish play I saw in that game seems to have been rectified. However, I'll be interested to see the next game where there is adversity and how he reacts.
