Done with Wally

Re: Done with Wally
Yeah because giving up 41, 35,33 and 28 in recent BCS history shows a dominating Defense. Amateur.

Oh so you're just going to cherry pick data. I assume what happened is you went and looked at defensive rating and it didn't fit what you wanted.

I think Wally needs to retire for both his sake and the programs sake. He is 72 and it can't be a lot of fun trying to throw something together for a defense that was not going to be very good that is now down to 4th and 5th string DL.

My biggest concern is the LBers. Wally coaches them, and they have been the most disappointing position in a very disappointing defense. Besides Miller and an undersized Luke Knott this group has pretty much stunk this year.

But a lot of those coaches have shown the ability to develop players. Saban developed players before he had the talent he had. Same with Mullen. Same with pretty much every coach at a high profile school having success. There are far more coaches who have all the talent in the world and fail. Hoke, Kiffin, Muschamp, I'd argue Dabo underachieves, Chizik did it, Mack on and on. For every coach you name with recruiting and success, there's a trail of that success. It's about development. Recruiting is like hitting the turbo button.

Tre, watch this.

1) Because it's johnny and he's awesome.
2) Watch what he says at the 2:00 mark.

Johnny probably knows a little more than you... sorry bud.

You realize Wally has coached first team all big 12 LB's like 3 of the 6 years he's been here? To say Wally doesn't know how to coach LB's is laughable. Look up JK's or AK's twitter history...they LOVE Wally and have on multiple occasions have given him ultimate credit.

Clearly coaches can develop players to compete against more talented athletes. Otherwise, how would anybody explain what Bill Snyder has done at K-State, what Boise State accomplished, Duke under Cutliff, etc.

If the light doesn't come on for you after seeing that, then I'm not sure it ever will..

I said it was relevant. Basketball and football are basically the same thing. It's not like one guy makes a huge difference in one and not the other or anything like that. It's not like one requires 5 times the number of players to play a game or something.

I hope Morrissey does, but 1 guy doesn't make a quality DL. From spring of last year to this last game, we are on our 4th string DT's. It's not a Big 12 quality group.

How many schools can be down to 4th string DT's and get quality production out of them?

It's really not. There are plenty of examples of great recruiting done in by poor teaching.

You can't pit recruiting against all other aspects of coaching combined. Recruiting is one aspect of coaching, and it's probably the most important element.

And it's not as simple as recruiting the most talented guys either.

AJ and JK were great, as was George, but the LBer corp outside of these guys has not been very good. Miller made himself into a decent LBer, and there have been a couple other guys that were serviceable, but as a whole the LBer play has been subpar other than when JK and AK were playing. It has been really bad as a unit the last 2 years.

None. That's my point as you can see from what was quote.

A new staff has provided a little spark in the offense, maybe it will for the defense. Still, we need better players on defense. We don't have Big 12 quality DL or LB's.

MAYBE a new defensive staff would help, but it won't if we are playing guys that aren't ready to play....like we are now. The best DC in the country couldn't make our defense right now good, because there aren't enough Big 12 ready players.

spot on. CPR doesnt have the nuts to fire him.

I like how you said this like an insult, when really its the appropriate thing to do. Wally has been coaching football and turning boys into men since before most of us here were born. The classy thing to do would be let him "retire", not to host a press conference and throw him under the bus.

But that doesn't fit the "anti-Rhoads" circle-jerk does it?

There's got to be at least 2. It's not that difficult.

This answer is BS. No school has so much depth that there would not be a significant drop off in the fourth string DT's. Maybe a few could shift offensive lineman to be mediocre DT's at best. Look at the troubles 5 star filled Texas has after losing starters. Haven't added it up, but I bet the number of 2 deep players out at ISU compares with Texas. Last year the O-line was snake bit and this year the d-line is. PR had to take chances to get talented players like Coe and Irving, the gamble didn't pay off. I get that if this continues, you have to look at the recruiting management, but it happens everywhere. Heck, not being able to hold on to players is what killed McDermott, not his coaching ability.
