"Fans" booing our own team

I have very rarely booed my own team in any sport/league in-person, however would do so under the following conditions:

1) Poor coaching/manager decision
2) A classless move by one of my team's players/coaches
3) A player/coach obviously not trying

I will also boo the refs for bad calls or the other team (mostly for classless moves or players/coaches I don't like.)

As a fan, when I attend games, I'd like to see my team put an effort into the game. I'm putting forth the effort and money to attend the game, I expect my team to put effort into the game. I also agree with negativity towards the boo-birds when I hear booing at bad plays (meaning where a player tried and screwed up) or when a player got injured. It sickened me as a Cubs fan hearing the booing over mere strikeouts in past years when the players definitely weren't trying to do that.

Clearly ISU fans should be a target, I mean we are so spoiled by success that we only show up when the team is competing for conference championships and going to big bowl games.

I have no problem booing incompetence by the refs, cheap play or taunting by the other team. When my team or coaches screw something up or appear to have mailed it in I don't find booing to be productive. I will walk out of the stadium (I rarely do) before I boo my team.

Was it okay to boo L Johnson when he got kicked out of the UNLV game for a cheap shot/ late hit in the end zone?

I think Booing is a perfectly acceptable way to display displeasure. I boo coworkers. I boo my kids. I boo my dog when he goes on the carpet. Its very satisfying.

Very interesting to know that you eventually got married and had your own kids, Mr. Radley.

I know you were booing the play called but the players only hear the boos.

What credentials do you have to warrant the right to be criticizing what is happening? Were you a former college player, coach, or what?

I'm guessing you are one of those that know everything about everything and you are never wrong.

And I find you to be very inconsiderate of those sitting around you. People are not leaving the game early, they are looking for seats away from you.

I was leaving the game early.

If you have a problem with someone that sits by you, say something to them. That's how we got an annoying lady to STFU in the first quarter.

Would be interested to know if any of the booers here have been booed by their own side while competing?

How did that work out for you?

Did you take it to heart or did you simply figure that the people booing were just ***hats?

Yeah, I thought so.

I guess if the coaches are going to "give up" at the end of the half there better not be any ******** by them about fans leaving at the half.

I didn't boo, but I sure was disgusted with the idea that with almost a minute left and down by dozens that we're going to give up and not even try.

Guess we need to change the fight song to "when we hit that line, we'll hit it hard every yard unless we're down big at the half."

This made me laugh way harder than it should have.

Anyway, I think booing itself is just intellectually lazy. I prefer to spout off long, profanity-laced tirades directed at those that draw my ire. C'mon, people. Bust out those thesauri and call someone a blue-waffle-eating-thunder-**** when they don't perform to expectations.

It was pretty clear the coaches were being booed for mailing it in.

I don't mind the 'booing' as much as I did half the stadium filing out. That looks great to the recruits I'm sure. I was amazed when we got commitments after that BS.

This. Threads like this are almost always stupid, and this one is no different. The players aren't dumb. They know exactly what the fans are booing when they boo. And the other night, the coaches were the target of the boos and deservedly so.

The fact that we even had the crowd we did in the first half when we are 0-2 at home so far this season should show the recruits we support our team plenty. No stadium is going to have many fans in it after half when youre down 35-7. If anything wouldve scared away recruits it would have been the scoreboard, not the fans.

Exactly. These are 18-23 year old guys. Not elementary school kids. They are smart enough to know what is getting booed and why.

I didnt boo, but had no problem with those who did. I didnt read the whole thread, but as to the 'credentials' the OP asks for, one does not need to be a cook to know when the food tastes like ****.

I have a feeling Diallo cared more about the fans, given he's not being recruited to play football.

,Since when is it a requirement to be a coach or former player in order to boo at a sporting event? Using that logic, the same requirement would be required to cheer. Paying Cyclone club dues and buying a ticket doesn't give a fan the right to behave like a jerk in public, but booing is not crossing the line.

If CPR does not want the fans to give up at halftime, then he shouldn't give up right before halftime.

For sack of the argument he didn't "give up." He thought it was safer to take a knee rather than risk throwing a pick or being forced to punt and giving Baylor another chance.

And if he was giving up that early in the game, he wouldn't have tried an onside kick later.
