The other huge piece that ran up the numbers against our defense, is that they were always on the field. With our offense going 3 and out every other time, it led to a large possesion time difference, and therefore more opportunities for other teams to continue to wear down an already very worn down defense. I think our defense last year wouldn't have looked nearly as bad, if our offense could have kept them off the field for an extra 5-10 minutes a game.

Actually there wasn't a huge time difference. In fact ISU I think had the edge in TOP when looking at the cumulative stats.

NDSU is a big time of possession offense always has been always will. We usually always defer and plug away on offense and attack on defense

This gets said so many times and I just don't get it. So many people are in denial that our defense was horrendous last year. For 1, last year for T.O.P. the Iowa State offense was on the field on average 2 min 18 seconds more per game than the defense (28:51 to 31:09). These are D1 athletes that are in top shape. The whole tired excuse is super lame.

The Baylor game. The defense was on the field for the whole damn game. If our OC had half a brain, we would have at least maybe put 20 points on the board.

More importantly, they ran 92 plays to our 60. The TOP wasn't that bad in that game, but they ran 50%+ more plays than us. That runs your defense into the ground.

I'm not a math major, but 31:09 - 28:51 appears to be 2 min, 18 sec.

Really? Baylor TOP 30:57, Iowa State 29:03. Being tired still not an excuse.

No they really wern't. Seemed like that game our defense was getting off the field just as quick as the offense. Didn't ever take Baylor hardly any time to score.

and even more impressive than that, we've hosted Gameday before. When was the last time ISU did that?

No details. I just get more attention and some nerds get jealous and attack. It's pretty simple.
Now I keep trying to talk football but y'all keep dragging me away.

Sounds like G 2 is the lot we will tailgate at HOWEVER NDSU official lot is on the other side of stadium so all the big rigs will be over there

Kinda like Justin Bieber?

Why are you pointing to TOP? What kills the defense is number of plays- go check out that stat and compare to the national average. Most good defense are never asked to defend 16+ possessions.

Talked to an actual Bison realist this past weekend, was a breathe of fresh air. NDSU does not return 3 of 9 guys on the line of scrimmage, they return only 2. That's insane, I discounted that Cole Jirik at DE was the starter last season and a senior. And Joe Haeg is their only returning starter on the offensive line. They also did lose their starting tight end in Kevin Vaadeland and their best skill guy at WR Ryan Smith. They do return a decent corner in CJ Smith but he was nowhere near the talent of Marcus Williams. They lost all but 3 staff members from last season, complete turnaround with no clue if Klieman can coach. Linebackers will be good but will be very tested with three starters gone on DL along with several other seniors lost in the front 7 that were depth guys. Safeties will be good but never tested like they will be in Ames with our receivers. Offense is like the coaching staff and complete turnover with Crocket (question marks behind him) and Zach Vraa the only returning threats. Only 2 returning starters on offense (Crocket was a backup), lost everyone else including their starting fullback. The confidence of Bison fans.... He said ISU by at least 2 tds.

I would be curious to know who you talked to cause they aren't fully informed of what's going on then. First off, questions marks behind Crockett? A back to back 1000 yard rusher who was splitting time with Ojuri? Where are the questions marks? Like is he going to get 60% of carries instead and go over 1500 yards? Also Offensive coaches, Tyler Rohl played at NDSU and was a great RB. People forget and don't realize that Tim Polasek was at NDSU from 2006-2012. He was only gone for a year. So he knows the players and system. I get that this is different because he will be offensive coordinator, I know that is different. But it isn't like it is someone that is coming in with no knowledge of these guys on the team. People forget that there are 18 seniors on this team that have 3 national titles. Yes we only have one returning Oline starter from last season. I have said many times that's the biggest concern we have with this team. 2 of the new 3 starting D line guys have started games before, and have a ton of playing experience. And Kevin Vaadeland IS returning for another season. Gosh how does a Bison fan NOT KNOW THIS??????? He was granted an extra year due to a hardship/medical issue from a few years ago.

Because of Vraa, Crockett, and Vaadeland that's a good trio of weapons to use on offense. DEPENDING on the O line play. And the experience and talent on defense will be leaned heavily on. And I don't see Iowa State winning by 2 td's.

You are delusional. If you are going to trust a "bison" fan, that does not realize their starting TE from last year has not graduated, that's your choice. Did you like him because he gave you hope and misinformation? There are real bison fans I would listen to that actually know there stuff on here, not some guy who has no idea who is returning and who isn't.

Also, our safeties haven't been tested by talent like Iowa State's? Have you heard of Tyler Lockett? He was pretty good, and we did not shut him down, but don't say they haven't been tested or imply they haven't seen anyone of your caliber receivers.

Crockett did rush for over 1,000 yards last year, some backup lol. But no I have never called him a returning starter because you are right he was a backup. Running back with a 1,000 yard rusher back is not a concern- the O line and new QB are the question marks, as well as the interior d line. Do you believe him that you will win by 2td's?

Question mark behind Crockett as in who his backup is and is he an every down back like they want him to be. I'll let him know about the TE, I may have misheard him on that one since he said he was a sr. The person is a family member of my wife, lives in Fargo, huge NDSU fan.

I don't think I've ever met more fans from another team that argue and debate who are returning starters and who are backups, more than NDSU fans. Rather entertaining to say the least.

Ok, Well from what I know he can be an every down back. Still don't see them going over 70% of carries. The reason it may increase is because Chase Morlock had minor meniscus surgery but it is said that he will play at ISU. Also King Frazier being a soph transfer bringing him along and will see how well he picks up the play book and offense and stuff. So probably may see 75% of carries for Crockett in opener and that wouldn't surprise me.

NFL Draft Diamonds and @FCSSCOUT said earlier that Johnson from UNI and Crockett are top 2 FCS backs on NFL radar. Said it's basically a 1A and 1B type thing where both are very good and clearly above anyone else. Zenner drops cause NDSU makes him look so bad I think so they don't figure if he can run on them then he can't run at next level? I am not sure why he isn't really talked about. Good back, just NDSU run defense has been so dang good.
