I thought you guys were flushed with oil money?!

I know I said this before. The State is rich.. the state will not spend money on athletics. It will give money to NDSU for 10 new research facilities, etc.. but is not going to dish out money for a new stadium, or high coaching salaries.

Know that there is a difference in posters. Just because you hate on LB doesn't mean you have to be a **** to Bison1 and the others that are civil. Let's all be friends, and let our teams beat the **** out of each other.

I made a bet with an NDSU grad at happy hour on Friday. If NDSU wins, she gets to decorate the windows of my car for a week. I don't think I'm quite as confident as she is.

I find it funny that people in North Dakota are bragging about all of this oil money when the median household income in Fargo is still over $5,000 below the National Average.

"ISU won't score 31. NDSU hasn't give up 30+ points since 1993!!!" - Lakes

That was my favorite Lakes comment... "we haven't allowed 30 points in a game in over 10 years"... I mean its true; if you ignore those times that they did give up 30 points...

Now on to the more important questions... Biso fans; why is there no "Trees Bowl" this year?

Also what means more to the average Biso fan winning the "Trees Bowl" or "Harvest Bowl"?

Hey. 1 time 31 points in 5+ years. Yes ndsu could play iowa state every year and 50/50 win lose with you all.

1 million barrels of oil a day now in nodak

The tree bowl is better.. b/c on your way out of the stadium they give you trees to plant. Mostly only pine trees, though one year I did geat an oak tree :) None of them were over a foot tall, so I highly doubt many are still alive.. but they did that for some years.

Umm, more like 4 time in just the last 5 years. 1 of those coming against an Iowa State team that had just gone 2-10 and was starting out with an entirely new coaching staff and system.

I imagine Lakes as the type of guy who would wander the stadium looking for trees people didn't take with them... sort of like the hoarder that roams the stadium collecting cups. Which I also imagine Lakes dabbles in as well.

Good call - Didn't we score 34 on them last time we played (5-6 years ago)?

If there is one thing that lakes won't let get in his way it is facts

HA! This made me laugh. For actual facts, NDSU has not given up more than 30 in the last three years. 27 was the high in 2011, 21 was the high in 2012, and 26 was the high last year. These are more relevant than anything before 2011, not because it makes NDSU look better, but because there are multiple players on this defense that started in 2011+12+13 and only 1 started before 2011 (Heagle as a freshman in 2010- redshirted 2012 due to injury). They gave up more than 20 points 3 times last year, and 9 of the 15 games opponents were held to 10 or fewer. In 4 playoff games against the FCS, supposedly the best FCS teams, NDSU gave up 7, 14 ,14, and 7. Of those 6 td's, the first team defense gave up 3 of them (1 pick six, 2 td's late in 4th in 30 + point blowouts).

Make fun of this and the strength of schedule all you want, just stating recent facts since I am sure it's tough to sift through all the crazy numbers thrown out there, like saying 1 time 30 + points given up in 5 + years, which is simply not true. The more relevant stat is 0 times in last 3 years.

Notice I don't give you offensive stats from prior years, since those are meaningless with a new QB and 4 new offensive lineman and trying to find a replacement for our slot WR. We really need Wentz to be good this year, or else our offense could really struggle.

It may be difficult to find so I wont really expect an answer, but how many of the starting 11 started games 2-3 years ago? And if they started games, how many? The reason I ask is if these guys only played 10 snaps out of 70 or so their impact on a game isnt really that telling.

Valid question. You could check any of these guys on Gobison.com for a year by year breakdown and click on the name if you want to fact check any of this. I will list starters for those national championship games, therefore not only players that played in 10 of 70 snaps, but played a majority of the game.

2011: 3- Beck (MVP of the championship game as a freshman), Heagle, Dudzik
2012: 5- Beck, Dudzik, Littlejohn, Emanuel, Schaetz (Heagle Hurt this year)
2013: 7- Beck, Dudzik, Littlejohn, Emanuel, Heagle, Smith, and Thorton.

Did you read the quote I posted? It specifically said Jorgensen has talked to power 5 conferences that said they WANT to play an FCS game, but do not WANT to play NDSU. It doesn't get simpler than that. I am not sure which P5 teams he was talking about, it might not be Nebraska or Wisconsin. The B10 very well might not play NDSU because of their scheduling philosophy, but the quote I was referring to just said P5 conference teams that WANT an FCS games do NOT want to play NDSU. We do not know which ones those are, but they are P5 schools.

In all seriousness though, the issue for NDSU with scheduling Power 5 schools is really when you're talking about the Top tier and lower level power 5 schools. For a school like Oklahoma or Alabama, losing to NDSU (however unlikely) could cost them a shot at a national championship. Why schedule NDSU, if you can get Incarnate Word for the guaranteed win?

For the lower tier schools, losing to NDSU could cost them a shot at a bowl game and be the difference between a 5-7 season and a 6-6 season. That is where ISU finds itself.

I for one have no problem scheduling NDSU and UNI every year (or Drake and UNI in basketball). My way of looking at it, if we can't beat the FCS schools on a certain year, we probably will not end up anywhere near a bowl (as evidenced last year). However, I can see how schools fear the backlash they would get from students if that one loss prevents them from postseason success.

Sad to say this, but you guys might be too good for your own good (and for your own level of play). If anything, losing to ISU would actually help you get more games from the Power 5 conferences. Now I'm sure Lakes will read this and use it as a conspiracy excuse if they lose: "We lost on purpose to help us get more FBS games".

No, that game never happened.. Or so I'm told by NDSU fans.

One thing I've learned from this thread is that some things from certain years don't count while others do. Just depends on which argument NDSU fans are trying to make.

However these last couple of pages of actual good discussion with the new guys have been refreshing. Just waiting for Lakes to come back in and take a giant dump in here again.
