Isn't Dominic basically Italian? Fine if he's going to end up a hit man in Jersey, but not sure I'd pick it for a Midwesterner.

Mostly people would end up calling him Dom, which is not so great, or Nick which I don't mind so much.

I had a friend from long ago. He and his wife named their only daughter Petrushka. I don't think either one cares/cared about Stravinsky or ballet. How many times do you think she got weird looks from people meeting her for the first time?

Ooops...you're right. Dominique is French.

Eh, what do I know? My ancestry is German, Scot & Irish with a tiny amount of Cherokee for local flavor.

I lived my entire life thinking my ancestry was 100% German, until a family member researching the family tree traced our roots back and discovered there's some Russian mixed in with that German background.

I'm pretty confident in the German part on my father's side. He comes from the Texas Hill Country, an area heavily settled by German immigrants, many of whom were still speaking a German dialect in their homes when I was small. It was heavily peppered with Spanish and English, but mostly German. My grandmother taught me Stille Nacht & Ihr Kinderlein Kommet...I sing Silent Night now, but I've never learned all the English words to Oh Come, Little Children. ;)

The Scot is strong on my mother's side. Traces back to The Macneil of Barra, although the spelling was changed over the years to McNeill. My uncles wore full kilt to formal occasions, and so far, three of them have been buried in full kilt (the fourth is still around...he was the youngest kid).

The Irish part is a little hazy...owing mostly to my puritanical grandmother's habit of deleting offensive ancestors when generating a "comprehensive" geneology: thieves, babies born out of wedlock, Native Americans, etc. I didn't learn about the Irish & Cherokee until I was in my 20s, and an older cousin mentioned it.

Might also be a blessing if he decides to open a pizza place. Might also be some Greeks with the Dominic name as well. Oh well, that goes with the opening a restaurant thing, too.

My mom's side is 100% German for sure. My dad's side was the side thought to be German, until the Russian ties were discovered. It's unfortunate though, my great uncle was the one doing the research on our lineage, and he was just about to link that we have direct descent from Catherine the Great before he passed away. He never got to finish it.

So, I loaded the dishwasher, cleaned the counters, went into the living room & picked up all of the cat toys, then went to get my vacuum but answered a phone call first. When I got back to the living room, Molly had very carefully removed nearly all of the toys from the box on the hearth and scattered them back around the carpet, and Milo was disappearing around the corner dragging their fox toy with Molly in hot pursuit. The older two cats were lounging on the formerly folded clean laundry on the couch, watching all of the action from the kids.

Who needs toddlers to mess up a house? I have cats that do it just fine. I'm taking this as a sign that I'm done cleaning for today.

Need to wash the Fairlane since I never did after driving to Madison last Monday.

Decided to take it for a short drive. Checked oil, added 1/2 quart. Checked PS fluid, added a 1/2 cup. Drove around a 4 mile loop near my home and at the intersection corner where I live, I pull around the corner and hear this loud clunk and clatter. Pull in the driveway and go back to see if anything fell off. Nope. Open the hood and the oil cap is missing and steam/smoke slowly rolling out of the valve cover. I look around and see the oil cap landed in a corner next to the radiator. I pick it up and examine it. Looks perfect so on it goes. No harm no foul.

I obviously forgot to put it back when I added the oil. So what are the chances I could drive 4 miles with it perched wherever the hell I set it, then only fall off right in front of my house, only to land safely and without causing damage right in about the only place under the hood it could do that?

Weird but lucky...

Went to Taco Bell at lunch. In the parking lot is a younger woman bending over behind her crossover SUV. I thought she was sick or catching her breath or something. Nope, she was smoking. Apparently didn't want her kids to see her doing so.

I suppose it's good that she doesn't smoke in the vehicle with them, but c'mon.

Trying to get the new apartment unpacked and organized. Just end up making a bigger mess then what I started with.
