*** Official FIFA World Cup 2014 Thread ***

I enjoy soccer and was excited about the World Cup but something about that Brazil match really dampened my spirit. With all of the corruption in FIFA, it's hard not to see a terrible call like the one yesterday and not come to believe that this isn't all corrupt as ****.
It hasn't spoiled the World Cup for me by any means, but it definitely did spoil what was an otherwise very entertaining match to watch.

I agree, but I couldn't help a "oh great, so this is how it's going to be" type feeling.

Mexican soccer fans are going to be all kinds of ****** off if Mexico doesn't get a goal in the second half, two disallowed goals that should have been good IMO.

I just realized that Cameroon, the country, has like a strange appendage on the north side of it so it can have access to Lake Chad. Hmmm, learn something new every day.

As opposed to Cam'Ron, the rapper?

it seems referee competency and good goalie play are hand in hand. And much worse in the Mexico/Cameroon game.

You know, I wondered when I turned on the stream why both clubs made such odd choices on which jerseys to wear (Neither red for Spain nor Orange for Netherlands), then I saw this on Reddit which is kind of interesting to me.

Interesting on kit choices:• For each match, the team listed first (on FIFA's website) is designated as the home side.
• Since this match is listed as "Spain v Netherlands", Spain receives first choice of which kit to wear.
• Spain selects all-red.
• Since Holland's Orange clashes with red, Holland must switch to blue.
• But according to the regulations, we now have a case of dark colored kit v dark colored kit.
• With Spain's alternate kit being all-black, FIFA inform Spain and their kit manufacturer (Adidas) that a light colored kit needs to be submitted to comply with FIFA regulations.
• All-white is chosen and will be worn against Holland.
• This means Holland can switch to orange right? Wrong. Orange is deemed to be Holland's light colored kit, so white v orange would mean light kit v light kit.
• For this match, Spain will wear white and Holland will dress in blue.
